Another case of COVID-19 at Sun Peaks Resort.
In a statement, the resort says one of their staff members, who is not in a guest-facing role, has tested positive for the virus.
“We are thankful that Sun Peaks has been relatively untouched by positive tests in the big picture and are both hopeful and optimistic it stays that way due to continued positive efforts of community members,” said the statement.
Contact tracing is underway to ensure that people who came in contact with the victim can self-isolate and get tested.
“We have been in contact with Interior Health and various enhanced protocols have been undertaken in numerous areas out of an abundance of caution (including extensive contact tracing efforts),” added the statement. “We will continue to take the same comprehensive approach with any further potential or confirmed cases for the duration of this pandemic.
“We will also continue to monitor everything closely on a daily basis as per our detailed health and safety plans.”
The province reported 41 new cases of the virus today, though none were in the Interior Health Authority. It remains unclear when this person tested positive for the virus, but there was a spike in cases linked to parties in Kelowna around Canada Day, which has grown to 90 cases, 78 in the Interior.
The resort is urging anyone who develops symptoms to self-isolate and get tested. People self-isolating in Sun Peaks who need food or financial assistance are urged to contact Sun Peaks Community Helps by email.
There have been at least three confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Sun Peaks, though Mayor Al Raine previously told NL News in April that there were about 20 presumptive cases in his community.
