Joe Colyer, of Pocono Lake, harvested the largest Pennsylvania black bear in 2011, a male that had an estimated live weight of 767 pounds. The bear was taken in Pocono Lake at 6:50 a.m. on Nov. 16, with a crossbow. Hunters killed 3,968 bears in 2011, second most in Pennsylvania history. Eighty-seven bears were killed in Monroe County this year, up from 57 last year.
