James Coignard
French artist James Coignard (1925-2008) was celebrated after four years from his death in an exhibition held in Venice in 2012 and curated by Berengo studio. Coignard since the 1960s approached the glass as a matter through which express his art. The exhibition displayed a selection of 40 works in glass, alongside with several paintings and drawings.
+fortuna designed the identity of the exhibition and curated the book on the artist.
The book, neither a catalogue nor a conventional monography, was conceived as a voyage in the work of Coignard, where the reader is invited to get involved in the different phases of the artist's life, to visit the places where he used to work, to feel the dialogue between the first sketches on rough paper and the accomplished work illustrated on smooth coated paper.
The size of the images and the rhythm given to their position on the pages emphasizes the strong relationship with the material component of the works.
The sequence and selection of images reflect the purpose of illustrating the works through the artist's personality, his gestures and gaze.
