The lolli pop was a symbol for eating a healthy potassium filled banana, nothing else. Bananas are good trail food. I think the intro was very responsible. Kudos!

If Pinkbike show my ballsack in the thumbviev..will I get as many clicks? it´s not as big as the Rampage riders but quite alright of size I think ,what do you say Pinkbike? equality?
  • 43 3
You can show skin only if you are making a statement. You can't just show them. You have to say, that the fact of your right ball being lower than the left one is... ...symbolizing the left sided government parties repressing the right winged ones who are supporting MTB. And that is not OK, because we want more people in MTB. The message doesn't have to be good or anything, but you have to have it. Else people are gona say you are just showing balls on PB.

Cool Video and all but if Girls on Bikes want to be taken seriously they shouldn't post pictures of them half naked on Pinkbike. You want to be respected for your riding, not your boobs. I don't want to offend anybody, just my opinion.

You're a badass rider. It's really too bad you had to pick the low hanging fruit and use sex appeal as your currency. It's not only not needed, as your riding speaks for itself, but it undermines the challenges women already face in this sport.

Respecting yourself, as a female, doesn't make you androgynous nor sexless. It just keeps creeps from posting a bunch of comments about boobs and jizz.
  • 91 22
Just because she does this doesn't mean she has no self-respect. Some people are proud of their bodies and want to show it off. And if that gets you more views... Go for it girl

That intro was unnecessary and honestly, kinda creepy. What creep behind the camera said "Yeah, lick a lollipop, thats sexy!"...

Are you that insecure about your riding skills that you had to resort to sex to get any attention? Respect yourself, keep your clothes on and stop being a poser.
  • 55 10
she models in her free time, who cares??? is it your body in front of the camera? is it your face being passed around on pinkbike? wheres the outcry against porn, or lingerie modeling??

She rides well and it's always cool to see ladies shredding...but I hope this doesn't spark a trend of PB videos starting off with guys licking lollipops.
  • 25 12
The first thing I noticed was the implied lack of cloths. While sexually appealing, its irrelevant to your obvious skill on a mountain bike.

There are plenty of other places to have your circle jerks. This is a site meant for the sport of trail riding -- not sex. I don't care what she does with her body, and I'm the last to suggest it isn't attractive ...but women have a legitimate struggle in this sport and her choice of bringing sex here only adds to those challenges. Pretending this isn't the case is only making you look like an uneducated fool.
  • 39 19
okay, I guess you took it all wrong.. I will delete the video.. sorry for bothering..
  • 69 7
Don't delete the video. Don't be brow-beaten by the self-appointed morality police, the air is way to thin up on their high-horses anyway. Giving in to this type of nonsense is the opposite of being empowered and strong.
  • 32 10
dont delete it because of negative feedback, you are just giving them what they want....

Brian, uneducated? please explain to me how letting her make a video however she wants is foolish for me to respect? its actually quite the opposite, i respect that she did it, shes attractive, who cares? its a video. im well aware that it isnt the only case but by YOU advocating that because this video is sexual, weakens women empowerment in the sport, you yourself are adding to the dilemma....
  • 37 4
the intro dragged me in, the riding kept me staying. nice vid, keep on shredding.
  • 45 11
first off, nice riding, 2nd...Brianasaurus, why are you even on this site? to enjoy biking or make somebody feel bad about a video they are proud to show off?  Theres nothing more sexy than woman who knows she's beautiful even when she's wearing sweatpants and a baggy hoody. I guess I just dont understand why Linda chose to introduce herself and her riding this way. All the layers of make-up and lipstick, standing half-naked, licking a lillipop for the camera was textbook creepy. She may as well been wearing a school girl uniform and pig-tails to complete the look. For me it was the polar opposite of sexy, it made me cringe.
  • 16 1
Fun vid, props for that drop! And continue to be yourself Big Grin
  • 14 2
I will fall in the middle. You are totally free to do whatever you want. But you are a badass and like others have said your ridding speaks for itself. I personally would love to see more of your shredding. We don't get enough awesome vids featuring talented women!
  • 28 2
My 2 cents. A woman has the right to make whatever videos she wants. Men have been telling women what to do with their bodies for far too long and this should probably stop, seeing as it's 2014. So more power to you Linda for deciding to make a video (especially when female led edits are generally poorly received on here) even if it's personally not to my tastes.

Surely if there is an issue, it is with Pinkbike? They are the ones making money off this (I doubt Linda is making a penny). They know that boobs = page-views & comments = ad revenue.

Pinkbike's slogan is 'for the latest in mountain biking news'. I don't think this is news, especially when there are more newsworthy stories involving female riders today, such as Manon Carpenter being selected for Sky Sport's Sportswoman of the month, that are not on the front page. I think that is the bigger issue here.
  • 20 3
I think you missed the point of the intro, Briana. What I took from it was, "Here is what society thinks I should be." then it shows her on the bike giving the message, "This is who I want to be!"
And even if I'm wrong, there is inherently nothing wrong with her expressing her sexuality or the naked human body. Only stupid institutions like religion and conservative society try to apply shame to the human body or the act of sex. Lighten up a little.
  • 14 2
Feminism is great and stands for equality of both genders. However, the way that many people abuse feminism, or use it as an excuse to criticize (ironically) other women is pathetic. I can't tell other men to be more or less masculine.. that's their choice. Women should not be discriminated, and telling her what she should or shouldn't be doing with her body is discrimination. If you don't like what she's doing, then you have the choice to NOT do what she's doing.

Same argument as religion. I don't care who practices what.. just don't force it onto other people. BTW, her riding was way better than the description made it seem. Good job.
  • 22 4
@Brianasaurus, your comments are the bigest overreaction I've seen in a while. I was expecting to see a porn movie since your comments. There is nothing in this video for person to be ashamed. I don't find the intro disrespectful to female riders by any means. It's humorous, if you are not in a need of humor transplantation.
  • 26 2
Jesus christ. Men find women sexy. Women like it when men think they are attractive. Women find men sexy. Men like it when women find them attractive. Its brilliant, it's a fact of life and its not going to change. (Well it might, but if it does the human race isn't going to last very long). Telling women it is wrong for them to flaunt their sexuality is equivalent to forcing them to wear a burqua. Which wouldn't exactly do a great deal for womens lib.

If the girl was massively overweight, oddly proportioned and by current mainstream views unattractive, and did the exact same intro, I wonder how many of you nay sayers would laud it as "a fantastic ironic statement about the sexualisation of women." Which would essentially be a subtle way of calling her ugly. Which wouldn't exactly be very feminist of you either now would it?

And before you come at me with something about how I'm missing the point because men view women merely as sexual objects whilst women look for deeper more meaningful stuff in men, I give you this:

2.bp.blogspot.com/-TR4wXl-U6c8/TswA-zU_ArI/AAAAAAAAAA0/OHealOWvcIs/s1600/hollister-promo1.jpg
They didn't even bother showing his face for gods sake. But thats fine apparently. Cos were men, and we dont care about being sexualised, as long as we get some attention.

It's great to see such a good looking rider, because most of the girls that does have your look will be scared of mountain biking, because of the scars they can get to their beautiful bodies. I hope videos like this can push more good looking women to not be affraid to ride. Finally, I'm scared of jumps and drops that big, so you got all of my respect.

Hey Fionn... respect for your racing career and all, but before self-respect comes respect for others that aren't you(Linda). You can't define what her own self-respect is(do I need to define "self")? You telling her what she shouldn't have to do is your stance and claiming it as right is elitist. She has her stance, you have yours'. The difference is she isn't telling you what you should or shouldn't do.

 @rattpoison.........

but linda is telling girls how to behave, how to act, and how to use her sexuality to sell her participation in action sports.

she doesn't even know it, or does and could care less, put she is 'telling' a lot of young girls how to act and behave in the way she portrays herself.

fionn knows whats up.

linda could have avoided the whole controversy by just showing her riding instead of going the 'eastern euro soft core white trash' route.

let the riding say all that is needed to be said.
  • 5 2
NO, she's NOT telling anybody anything. She's expressing herself the way she wants to. It's not for you. It's for her! The only controversy there is what you conservatives create for yourselves. She loves it,we love it. If you don't love it........don't watch it.
  • 16 8
At the end of the day, this isn't about her being sexy, nor is it about her being a capable rider -- this is about getting attention, and she got it. At 20, I remember looking for the wrong kinds of attention, too... It didn't pan out well, and it certainly wasn't about me being confident or secure in myself as a person. It meant I was a dumb f*cking kid who was too insecure to go out and be myself, so I sacrificed pretty important parts of myself for attention.

This video isn't about Linda being confident in her riding ability or even in her physical appearance; this video was posted to help a 20-year-old female convince herself that she's good enough through the validation of a bunch of creeps on Pinkbike.

Linda, let me tell you this: you are good enough. You are smart enough. You have some amazing riding talent that you should definitely work your ass off to develop and pursue as a career. You can model, too. You're beautiful, and I'm sure you're probably a really nice girl.

But let me tell you this: you don't need this shit to prove how awesome you are. I know it feels like you do, but your riding would have stood on its own as there's very little video of chicks really shredding on Pinkbike. You're talented, but you definitely need to kick the sexual stuff -- it just undermines your riding and devalues you as a female athlete. What you need to ask yourself is this: do you want to be valued for your looks now? Or do you want to be valued as a rider for always? Looks fade, boobs sag and sexuality dims. But talent? Legendary, work-your-face off talent? That creates stories that will live much longer than sexual allure. You've got this, girl. Let's see some more riding.

  • 8 5
It's not about me -- it's about the sport we share with Linda, and I offered some unsolicited advice based on the negative decisions I made at 20. It's definitely not about me, but it goes further than Linda -- her example is leading the way for how young girls will perceive 'success'.

Maybe you missed the positive tone of my comment or maybe you're just a dick, but how about you step back and honestly read my comment again? Someone who isn't actively seeking attention doesn't put out a video like this, hands down.
  • 5 4
Also: I'm perfectly happy these days, but only because I stopped looking to others to tell me I was good enough. I started BEING good enough for myself partly because of riding and because of racing, and there's nothing I want more for any other woman than to be happy with herself because of what she can do and who she is. NOTHING. That's the best feeling in the world. Smile

The video says one thing... It's very simple. "I'm not just a pretty face. I love DH and can ride a bike..." It's that simple. Thats why she shows the all the cutesieness (sp?) at the beginning, then transitions to the riding. she shows there's more to her than just what people see with a FIRST IMPRESSION. You want her riding to do the talking? That exactly what she does. Are you able to look beyond skin deep? Doesn't sound like it if you're still arguing about this. This video is a test and many of you have failed...

We, as athletes and representatives of the sport of mountain biking should be open to all to ride and embrace the content of others who enjoy the sport. Yes there was some implied actions at the start of the film and I am sure that was intentional as more women think they need to use sex to gain traction in any sport (see pro surfer Anastasia Ashley's warm up videos) but like Anastasia (who purposefully dances as her warm ups), women are taking back their right to be themselves and be women.

HOWEVER.. this does not give men the right to be creeps about it and publicly post harassment. I am 100% in favor of having more women in our sport and am working hard to destroy the old marketing campaigns we did in the 90's and early 2000's that opened the door to lechery in order to create a more friendly sport that is also more open to women. That said I am sure Linda was just having fun in the beginning and I believe it was more of a juxtaposition of two worlds.. One of what the general public of men think of attractive women and another view from the woman herself (Linda's riding).

With companies like Juliana, Liv and Sombrio helping make large strides in that direction too, I think it is far time for all the men (and boys) of this sport to welcome more women riders and keep your harassing thoughts and rhetoric to yourself. The sport needs more women in it, let's welcome them all and not post comments about them as objects. It only shows to the world that our sport is nothing more than jerks.

MTB as a whole is better than that guys!

(my 2 cents)

Woman should be allowed to be women and men be men. Women are feminine and beautiful and should be free to express that. If they are athletic as well, then fantastic. One does not detract from the other, it's additive. I've seen many marketing shots of professional male athletes posing like they are so tough they just ass kicked a gang of ninjas. That is male sexuality folks, and no one bats an eye. I admire Linda for expressing herself and sharing her skill and personality. If anyone here thinks her video is any different from the male riders looking tough and doing dangerous things, then you are setting a double standard.
  • 5 2
I think either way is objectifying. Making anyone into a sex toy is wrong, regardless of gender. Our society tries to teach people to do it to themselves. Beyonce comes to mind. I work with troubled kids who suffer because of it everyday, and I hope to protect people from it where I can.
  • 5 0
Who took away their right to be women? You lost me on that! Question is - if she was 300 lbs and had acne - would anyone care about this video? Attention single ladies - if you want to land a man, take up mountain biking. You will be pursued in a way you could only dream of! If you can tolerate your man incessantly buying bike parts, you could be very happy.

A friend of mine back east is awesome. She rides hard, is a great person and a leader in the local cycling community. She also is chubby. She eats well and rides constantly, and her body type is such that she does not lose weight beyond a certain point unless she takes it beyond the point of healthy. She is my wife's inspiration when it comes to being awesome, mind, body, and soul. If she posted this video no one would mention her femininity. Not because she is not awesome, but because people care about the wrong things and try to hide it behind the right things.

A thing that really pisses me off recently is downgrading things like this intro to lowest sexual connotations, sometimes it gets to the edge of discrimination. She just made a sexy intro for fks sake, it has to make her happy to do it, why do so many people behave as if she did a peep show, and on the other side, that some undefined group of men immediately gets a wank reflex after looking at it. Such attitude is as immature as comments above, the difference is, that those shitty comments are made by teenagers, which is more than understandable, while that prudent shit talk on values, selling body and other crap comes from adults who should know better. I am just waiting for someone to hit her with the bible or something like that. This was a personal video for the love of god, not some paid hostessas used by Wanker Energy to promote their shtty soda, where even there I find it hard to blame those girls for anything. Marzocchi stuff was really low yea, girl on DJ III fork or 888 in 2007-2009 was a cry of desperation for bushing intolerances, but I bet a million it was inspired by MotoGP and "workshop posters". Yes my testosterone level is sky rocketing hahahaha

 @WAKIdesigns

Speaking for myself, part of my frustration with this stuff is knowing exactly what I'm going to see: a bunch of idiots that make comments that border on assault. I was actually surprised at the level of restraint here compared with other places. I get tired of feeling like I have to be ashamed of my gender group because of how freaking creepy & psychopathic some members are when women are on the interwebs.

There's also the fact that there's been some women who've been getting attacked in pretty horrible ways lately: a woman who's done some critiques of gender roles in video games has been getting both death & rape threats. Heck, a guy in england just got sent to prison for a few months because he threatened a politician over twitter, say that he we was going to rape her the next day. Seriously, WTF? Because she has different politics than you?

Anyway, those cases have put this stuff at the forefront of my mind, i guess. It's getting old feeling like I have to apologize for a bunch of degenerates.

I work with troubled teens professionally. I get to see first hand the damage done by continual harmless little videos. A young girl sees this and sees how much people like the rider, not for her riding, but because she is sexy, and values herself based on whether she can do the same. It leads to a lot of unhealthy self images and behaviors. Many teenage girls truly value themselves entirely based on sex appeal. It leads to eating disorders and self harm. She shouldn't be ashamed to be beautiful, but she shouldn't show it off either. That is my argument. It is not religious. It is only moralistic based on experience with the harm I have seen and worked with first hand.

 @Marzocchi-USA

I agree, David. There should be no shame in being a women who rides a bike and I am certainly not going to go out of my way to convince others that I am not trying to use my gender as a ticket to stardom just because others make that assumption. We are all entitled to express ourselves however we want. What saddens me more than people like Linda who decide to proudly showcase their personalilty is the people (mostly other women) who try to drag her down, judge her, and offer mislead and self-centered advice. It's such a shame and so counter-productive. Rock on @lindapaluc! You are a phenomenal rider and your confidence is inspiring!

That being said, boys will be boys and keyboards are safe. There is a pretty easy solution.. Delete the unacceptable comments.

@taletotell - sure, but I just refuse to throw it at the girl. As long as we blame only the trigger for desire, instead of understanding what happens inside of us and dealing with it, we are going nowhere. One has to be able to face the dragon, dig the skeleton out of the closet and take a deeper look at HIMself. Whenever I hear some sht about porn I always hear of "turning a woman into an object", but very few say that it is the viewer that ultimately does it. We always put it down by saying: it's for perverts, wankers. Unless a man realizes that he does himself harm by doing certain sexually angled processing of "woman" content in his head, nothing is going to change here. Therefore I am not going to point ANY finger at any content like that because I can see sht in my head first. There is so much pressure these days to make joint actions to save God knows who and what, Gay people, Environment, say no to racism - awesome! But it is obvious that it ain't gonna work without own mental development because what we do is we are trying to put the responsibility on the state and education to root out hate. There has to be a WILL for development at a personal level, otherwise we are going to fall victims for fabs - maybe Burka will become cool one day? It does not take much for those who know how to adress complexes in our subcionsious, it happens in marketing all the time. Any value can be exploited just as feminism was in it's beginnings. Only willingness to develop to see through that crap can help.

What I meant was: do not get over exicted about "innocent" stuff like that because A-this is a symptom of all we humans do and who we are, and B - with oeverexcited mob there is a very short way from "that is not ok" to "that should be forbidden!", and no regulation, no system can withstand the uniqeness of a human being, therefore sooner or later, it harms it. Hahah and C - talking too much about anything can pump it to a serious stuff, so I quit it here, because: she just did a freaking vid, short mountain biking video, as simple as that. As you see, taking no action may be a good solution to world's problems, even though the direction our civilization put on an individual cannot cope with that concept. No more preemptive strikes and saving people from themselves until anything happens ok?

True Waki, it is in us and forbidding it generally would treat something that has a considerable spectrum as black and white. As some people have mentioned, the beginning makes a point that I missed because I was too busy being disgusted with myself and foistig that on her. I see a bit better that whether or not she meant to (and I think she did though I should have asked her) she makes point of "they see me as this: sexy object, but this makes me happy: awesome biker.
If that is her message then I do support this video. I just missed that message early on, and as is often the case with art, if you prohibit it from making you uncomfortable (censorship) you also prevent it from making you think.
Saddly though, it is easy to look at this video and not think. As you say, the responsibility is on us to think and not just react, whether it be horniness or outrage, either objectifies her.

I'm not projecting a double standard. If you want to make a video like that you can and shouldn't be ridiculed for it. Some people might apply a double standard to it but thats bigotry, and I ain't down with that.
  • 5 1
Should and shouldn't be ridiculed for? There's no bigotry in pointing out the obvious sexual overtones, where are in no way related to mountain biking.
  • 8 0
The reason you dont start a video with a shot of the bulge in your pants and post it on pinkbike is because 90% of the viewers are male. If you were to make a video where 90% of the viewers were female, it would not be at all unusual to do some random sexy poses at the beginning. As an example I cite, erm, any video ever made by a male pop singer.

  • 5 0
@ deadtime etc: I think you're missing the point about gender equality. Gender equality refers to the view that equal rights, opportunities, protection etc for both women and men exist. The reason people get annoyed or are offended by this video is because it encourages idiot men to perv over women and thus encourages inequality. It's a cool video and Linda is of course free to choose what she does with her own body - no one can argue against that (unless they are mean and against gender equality!)

@ people who find this offensive: There is NO point arguing why you dislike it here!

To all who see this as a negative reflection of women's values.. Get over yourself. Biking is biking, regardless of wether the rider is male, female or something else entirely. Let the riding speak for itself, which judging by Linda's video, is better than the majority of bikers on this site. Anything aside from riding in these videos is meant to be a hook, wether that's a bunch of random shots of trees and bushs or an intro clip of a women who's proud of her appearance and not afraid to show it. My girlfriend (rider/model) actually showed me this video, stating how cool it was to see another girl out there slaying trails. She wasn't thrown off by the intro, which to her was just a great way of catching people's attention. Yes 99% of the guys watching this see that as sexual appeal, but only an uneducated mongrel would take that at face value. It's meant to capture your attention, just like bright colors and loud noises. Using this intro was her personal way of expressing herself, she wasn't forced into it.

I was excited to have a "girls mountain biking" video to show my 5 year old daughter. I'll need to start the video about a minute in so she doesn't think she needs to be sexy in order to get positive attention.

Nice riding and video otherwise.
  • 11 2
"...... so she doesn't think she needs to be sexy in order to get positive attention".

Agreed Layman, 100%. I am struggling so hard with my 10 year old daughter to try and find her positive images of women (especially in mainstream Japanese society/media) that do not require one to conform to the current view presented in the same of "what a woman is" as a pre-requisite for any kind of success.

However, and this point is a general one made for the benefit of all readers, it is not a direct response to you Layman, so please do not take it as such, do not for a moment think it is only girls under that pressure; we are all, regardless of gender, subject to it.
Subsitute "rad" for "sexy" above and nothing changes except the gender of the person being told how to act. I find the image portrayed of male mountain bikers in the media, especially on places such as PB, is that if you are a skinny, lycra-clad XC rider, you are somehow inferior to anyone under the influence of Sean Palmer, Troy Lee or anyone who has spent many an hour getting inked, ripped, who whoops alot and throws three's off everything and anything. The atmosphere here on PB requires one to have a thick skin in the face of the crowd. Unfortunate, but a reality.

It can get frustrating sometimes yet, I live in the hope that there are enough of us around in the world who can, though how we act towards and treat the people around us, show young people that you can, if you believe it, succeed, even if you do not conform to how society wants you to look and act. Go on kids! Go do it. Here are some heroes for you: www.pinkbike.com/u/brule/blog/video-singletrack-high.html

there are videos for all the ages, it's your duty as a father to watch over what kind of informations your child come across, and i'm sure you're doing a great job, given the concern you express in your post. that said, it's true this sport is 80%, maybe 85% male territory, and it would be nice to have more girls on the trails. but still, if your girl's gonna love (and hopefully practice) this sport as much as we do, she'll do it independently from the number of female riders video she'll watch (imho). She'll see some dude (or dudess) taking of a jump in ultra slow mo and she'll think "that's the awesomest thing in the universe". After all, when on the trail, the only thing that matter is how committed you are, not what's between your legs Wink

  • 4 1
Hi Bruccio, Agreed. It is that simple, and as you say, that is all part of being a parent, hopefully a parent that encourages his daughter to try out lots of stuff and believe she can do whatever she wants without falling prey to peer pressure.

It is really difficult at times, and frustrating, to see children being so confused, and I think that is a good word to describe what I see in my own 10 year old daughter, confused, as to what she herself should be doing or how she should be acting. There is, to me at least, signs of conflict within her about what is 'good' to do, how is 'good' to act. Often this conflict seems heavily influenced by the media. It is what it is right and we do our best to help her find meaning in it.

ericbs.
Could you explain? As far as I understand it, a hypocrite is someone who espouses one course of action in others, yet follows a different course of action themselves. Could you explain to me how my comments on your contribution here are as such?

Bring the little squirrel riding with you. i was at beerfelden three weeks ago (a bikepark in germany) and there was this dad with a girl (max 7yo) and a boy (maybe 8/9): i can tell you, this two little pirates were hitting all the features of the black wall and green bomb tracks. of course they were avoiding big drops and jumps but hell, what an awesome childhood!
  • 16 4
I don't understand why so many women feel that it is necessary to bring up their sexuality in circumstances that are inherently non-sexual (ie. mountain biking). For example, 99% of videos of males riding mountain bikes don't have any sexual themes, but a much larger percent of women's' videos do. In many of these cases, it's the WOMEN who are casting themselves in a sexual light. This does a great disservice to those women who want to be taken seriously for their ABILITY and not have their gender be brought up at all. I know that when I ride my bike, I want to be considered a mountain biker, not a "female mountain biking", or a "girl rider"

Don't get me wrong, I believe in female empowerment and body positivity and all that shit. I also recognize that their are differences in gender, and that their are certain environments where it is ok to embrace sexuality. When I go out to the bars, you bet your ass I'm going to put on a short skirt and heels..because the goal their is of a sexual nature. But when mountain biking, the last thing I want is attention being drawn to the fact that I am a female.

I think if women want to level the playing field and be appreciated for their true ability, then they need to stop sexualizing themselves in environments where sex isn't involved.
  • 4 1
Also please excuse the misuse of "their" when it should say "there". Among other typos. I'm running on no sleep and a few too many beers..
  • 2 1

  • 6 2
It's not about bringing it up, it's about not being expected to leave it out. Some gals are less feminine than others, but if a girl paints her nails and wears a shirt that is actually fitted for a woman to hit the trails, it's assumed that she's using her sexuality to make gains. Why? So we are to supress our own personality in order to avoid the assumptions of others? If this is really about getting more women into mountain biking, then how about we stop judging and being so selective about who we "let in"? She made a video with hopes of letting other girls know that you can ride no matter how little testosterone you have. Her intentions were good and her riding is excellent. What is the problem here?
  • 5 2
No, it's fine to be cute and girly and all of the things that make us girls. What it's not okay is to openly exploit sexuality for attention, which is what the naked lollipop intro is doing. Her riding and cute personality should be enough (and it is) to get attention; why overtly sexualize it? Why go there? Why set a precedent for other, younger girls who may watch this, read te comments and think they need to do the same thing? Not everyone gives a shit about how a woman looks, and it really shouldn't matter... Her riding should be able to speak for itself. If she feels like it doesn't, it doesn't make it appropriate to sexualize a sport.

Let's be honest -- this is also not a video of her painting her toenails or putting on mascara. This is a video of her prancing around (what can be perceived as) topless and licking a lollipop.
  • 14 5
I'm a woman and when I saw the post headline I was sooooooo stoked to see a female ride I immediately clicked on it and hit play. The minute I saw her licking that lollipop candy I exited the video and then came back and skipped the beginning.. I'm totally cool with boobies, trust me I am. My problem is that I actually wanted to see her riding skills and maybe a short interview but nope.... I get to see this women licking a lollipop then riding a bike.. how are the two even relevant? Totally disappointing....
  • 8 1
I wish she would have done a cute intro or even an interview so we could get to know her as a person, not a sexual object licking lollipops.

  • 8 0
1st off, great riding Linda! Good edit, music selection, angles, and use of slo-mo at the right moments without over using it. Really liked the sun silhouetted ending and Semmering looks so fun.
As for the intro that is getting so much attention, I like your smile, the glasses, and your form, but think the lollipop was cheesy. That being said I find the smooch through the helmet and the idea of a girl that could shuttle and ride the park with me all day much more sexy.
*There is way too much OVERREACTION going on in here! Why is sexuality looked down on? I see no foul play. Be who you want to be. True, there are numbskulls that are going to make vulgar comments but that is going to happen no matter what and I doubt Linda would have filmed that intro if not prepared for public review. The population is so varied in opinions and some without common sense to compliment respectfully. As for it impacting the sport, I don't think this video would influence a new girl rider to not pick up her bike and go ride. Does the fact that we saw her bare shoulders degrade the skill level at which she is riding?? I think not! Would the same argument be made for a really tight pair of lycra shorts on a guy?? I doubt it has ever been argued that tight lycra shorts are inappropriate and pose a bad image for the ethics of cycling. As for the parents worried about their kids seeing this type of media, have you watched or listened to television and current music lately? Kids will grow up and find their way, and nothing is hidden nowadays. Plus, it was just her shoulders! You can see that in public, at the beach, etc. I've seen yoga pants at the grocery store that were more offensive.
Enough with my tangent, I'll get off my soapbox now. Smile
Linda, keep up the great riding, don't let the negativity impact you, and keep being yourself because no matter what this sport needs more women at every park, trail, or event!

would everyone talking about objectification just shut up? She rode well, made a sweet vid, and happens to know she is attractive. I dont see the problem. If you are a chic and feel objectified against because of this video, the simple solution is to just let it lie and move on with your life. For all the dudes who are writing that they disliked the objectification, congratulations on your progressiveness, but let me just commend you on struggling through the first 30 seconds to get to the riding. Stop typing and go ride, because there is no point to this but to make a great rider feel shitty about something she probably worked hard on.

So, Hailey Elise's video where she just gets on with riding a bike in a nice fluid style (here www.pinkbike.com/news/lady-shredder-hailey-elise-video-2014.html) got about 2,500 views.

Linda's first one (which is really cool, attractive girl rides bike looking attractive, ample proof that the two can go hand-in-hand) got about 33,000 views.

This one gets over 100,000 views.

The conclusion: Sex sells.

Which is what all advertising and PR people have known for decades.

I don't think it was necessary to try and make a statement that you can be beautiful AND ride a bike by having a sexy intro (though I thought it was quite playful and tasteful FWIW), cos I thought that was pretty well stated in the Part 1 video. So I'm not sure what the purpose of this one was, other than to boost viewings, which is kinda what sponsors want their sponsored riders to do..

I think we'll always be caught in some kind of Catch-22 with this. If sex sells, then people will continue to use it to boost ratings/viewings/sales.. and sex sells because viewers will continue to watch. You could liken it to the problem of being vegetarian because you disagree with killing animals for food. For as long as the majority of people continue to eat meat, animals will be killed and eaten for food. For as long as the majority of people continue to positively react to advertising which used sex in some way (i.e by buying into the brand advertised, or by keeping on increasing ratings/viewings), there will be adverts using sex to sell.

Nicely done on hitting those drops! ...But fucking spare me the lollipop-cocking-licking innuendo and the implied toplessness. The lowest common denominator is not worth playing down to. Yes, sex sells but it's been whored around to the point where anything its supposed to sell ends up leaving as bad of a taste in my mouth as stale air and cheap drinks.  This video just screams "Hey, look how delightfully juxtapose my femininity and sexuality is with my ability to (sorta) ride mountain bikes! Can't wait to see how many comments I get on Pinkbike about guys wanting to marry me!"

If you consider yourself a good rider, cut the sexual shit out and take yourself seriously. You don't see men riders sexifying themselves.

I'm all for sex and appealing to the opposite gender, but good god, why are appearances so relevant in every part of female existence?
  • 3 0
I partially agree, but if she were REALLY trying to juxtapose femininity and riding, she could have easily shown herself getting a manicure or waxing her eyebrows, or even half dressed up in girly clothes/half dressed in DH gear. There are many different avenues of presenting a female character outside of nude prancing and lollipop licking.

Nice riding and loved the drops! Not sure why your video has caused such a flurry of feminism but my guess is because of the flurry of male-ism. One always seems to follow the other. As for the sexuality comments, how many times did we see pictures of guys like Semenuk and Zink with their shirts off during rampage (and the rest of the season)? How many well cut guys like to walk around the bike park shirtless in the sun? They ain't doing that for the other guys now are they..?

,ZAM2 - A JOURNEY OF ONE FREERIDER CONTINUES Not sure if anyone remembers this one from January but this guy gets naked in a stream then comes out of a bathroom with his junk out. No comments... but this girl may or may not be wearing a shirt and eats a lollipop and one of you morons mentions jerking off. WTF.

Girls are awesome + bikes are awesome = girls on bikes are awesome!! Way to go Linda, after reading the article www.pinkbike.com/news/endless-biking-where-have-all-the-ladies-gone-2014.html It's great to see how many ladies are really tryin to push the gravity side of things to new levels. And videos like this will surely get more girls stoked to shred!! More people biking is good, period. Maybe more than 4 girls will regulary contend for WC podiums in years to come!
  • 1 0
Yawn..... i was wondering how long the comment section would degenerate into a debate about women's rights and the perpetuating stereotypes etc. EVERY time a remotely pretty female rider posts a video that expresses any kind of sexuality SOMEONE starts the debate going. Hater's gonna hate, Linda, Mitja, just ignore them!
  • 3 1
Then I'll ask you the same thing I've asked above -- if she were a dude, would this riding have earned her a spot on the front page?
  • 2 1
Linda - great video keep it up, at least you made a video how you wanted and not what the haters wanted.

The haters are gonna hate and the potatoes are gonna potate Wink

I thought the stripping was cool and then you was descent on a bike, I think the beginning part was about all the boys that just see a women and think fit fit fit and then she started riding and it was actually great rather then just fit fit fit and then being crap.

There is a lot more positive comments on the link then negative........so please keep the beginning bits in for all your videos.

Stay frosty (cool)

I'm sick of the local bike park being a post office (full of male packages) and we need more girls like this encouraging women into the sport. I think if girls see this they would be more inclined to give it a go. I say if Laura convinces even one more girl into off-road cycling then we all owe her a big thank you.

She's also really good at it! Better than me anyway!

So my 2cents are: most of us pbike users are men. THEREFORE we tend to see the video with masculine point of view. The first 17 secs are the sexual teasing ones to catch our attention, and the rest is the thing we love second after sex. BUT, WHAT IF, the video is seen from the female point of view? i think that in that side of the river, things are quite different, maybe something like "ehi i'm cute, therefore i'm meant to be sexy and stuff, but you know what, fOOOOk it, let's take a ride, why not" . .you did it also in your first video (nice mercedes btw) In the middle of the two extremes, countless opinions more or less biased towards the two poles. it's a matter of interpretation i think. @lindapaluc if the two poles where the only ones, you would have got the best of two worlds (mars and venus, i would say). but we are not made with molds, so you can raise shaming coming from wannabe femminists (sorry girls, but you sound too often like bigots) or crap coming from creepy horny guys.

as per me, i like both DH and pretty girls, guess where i stand Wink

Yes! Cool riding spot, camera work was great too. I'm loving the classic rock soundtrack in the videos so far. Rock on sista!

Finally the name PINKbike was truly honored!!! I suggest pinkbike to NEVER upload a video with guys again!!! Just girls!!! Unless the guys are dropping off cliffs!!! Then it is ok!!! BUT GIRLS FIRST!!!

One time I was riding and I saw a girl. She was wearing nothing but yoga pants and a sports bra. It was cool. She was a better rider than most of the trolls that comment on these stupid vids.

  • 4 4
I have to agree with the slut shaming comment. There is nothing pornographic about this. Viva la differance. Are we moving towards burqas in western culture? How many pictures of the guys at rampage did we see with shirts off? This is really legitimate riding! That said I don't think a true DH bike was needed, get on a trail bike and better utilize your sweet technique with more fun.
  • 2 0
I approve of this video! Well filmed, decent music and nice riding! Come on over next summer and film at our bikepark (Chatel in the Portes du Soleil).
  • 3 1
Is this the same girl from the mtb boob girl video that came out months ago? Or is this a copy cat boob girl? I WISH I could look this good in a video.. Haha! Seriously.
  • 3 0
Hmm... I retract my question. Not the original boob girl. Just want to drop my two cents that as a fellow girl, I don't feel strongly about the vid one way or another. The riding is okay, but she's having fun... That's all that matters. People need to chill out. Ok, that's all...
  • 2 0
If I had a product she could wear or use, she would get full sponsorship. She's got great style, and she is gonna get views!.

  • 9 9
Wow. I think you all have lost the point here.

There's a difference between being 'beautiful' and selling sex. Beauty is one thing -- to deny it would be criminal, and what would we have her do, wear a burqa? No.

However, what Linda has presented here isn't beauty. It's sex, and she's presented it for the sole purpose of gaining views and notoriety. Do you know what that's called, kids? It's called 'sexual objectification', ie, a human who presents their sexuality in a way that is exploitative and sales-pitchy to get what they want.

What does Linda want? Attention. And she's gotten it. Congrats, Linda. You're up there with Paris Hilton and Anna Kournikova; you've gotten attention, but you've also exploited our sport to get it.

The issue isn't Linda's sexuality, it's the fact that it's her commercialization and exploitation of her sexuality combined with a sport that doesn't CARE IF YOU'RE SEXY. You've sold your sex to an audience who will forget you as soon as the next set of tits comes along. Why? Because that's all you've reduced yourself to being -- a pretty, lollipop-kicking face atop a set of tits that rides a bike reasonably well. Congrats. I do mean that, because you've gotten what you came for: attention. However, you've cheapened every other female rider out there and you've fed into a lie by exploiting yourself like this. How? Because you don't have to be sexy to be great at biking, or to be a good person. You shouldn't have to be sexy to get attention for riding a bike, and you shouldn't have to get naked for your riding videos to get views. Your riding should be good enough to speak for itself, and your beautiful face should be enough to make you feel good about yourself WITHOUT having to present yourself as a sexual object.

Congrats on the success of your business plan -- I just hope it holds up for you when your body begins to sag or show signs of someone that truly pushes their physical limits.
  • 1 0
OK, I think I get the point, but how do you feel about more celebrated sportswomen who pose provocatively (naked or otherwise) for glossy mags or adverts? Some examples I thought of are Lindsey Vonn and Victoria Pendleton. Are they cheapening their sports or reducing themselves to sex objects? Or do their considerable sporting achievements afford them some sort of license where it's ok to earn some extra cash, raise their media profile, or achieve some other goal, by taking their clothes off in front of a camera? It's a difficult subject to understand, and to me (a man) it isn't as black and white as you present it.

Obviously there are female mountain bikers who, based on merit, deserve much more coverage than this particular rider is getting. Something isn't right with the culture that some sponsors and media outlets are perpetuating, and with some of the attitude that young men are picking up from "other kinds of websites." To me it seems the problem is with sponsors/media not properly representing women athletes, rather than individuals who take advantage of the system we have.
  • 2 1
I feel the same way about those women exploiting their sexuality as I feel about Linda doing it -- their abilities should be enough. Their personalities and their deeds and their accomplishments SHOULD be enough. Are they? Sometimes they're not. But Lindsey Vonn has created more momentum for women's ski racing than any other female to ever live. Is that enough for me to show up to watch her race or read an article or watch an interview? Abso-f*cking-lutely.

Ms. Vonn can and does often hang with the men -- she rocks men's skis, shreds the hill as hard as she can and has a physical presence that literally engages people the second she walks into the room, and she doesn't need to take off her clothes to do it. However, she has. And that's unfortunate.

But you do raise an excellent point -- IS is the responsibility of the media? Or of the athletes? Or the industry? Or the demand from the (male) public? Quite frankly, it's the responsibility of all of us. Athletes, industry, media and the male public -- hold us to a higher standard. Appreciate our beauty, but applaud our skills. Highlight our efforts, not our appearances. Sponsor and support women who are reaching beyond their appearances to raise the level of progression, create dialogue, build relationships and create a stronger future for mountain biking for EVERYONE.

Only then will mountain biking be truly equal.
  • 2 0
How about the reverse? When male sports stars strip down?

I agree with your original post in principle, but in practice, beautiful men and women flaunt their sexuality for attention... If Christiano Ronaldo, David Beckham, Rafael Nadal and Ryan Kesler (who don't need the attention) feel comfortable doing it, is it really fair to judge them so harshly?
  • 1 1
Awesome question, which I don't have the answer to.. I have an opinion, but that's all it is.

When beautiful men inside of any sport, like mountain biking, strip down (ie, Gee's naked Cosmo feature), that's all it is -- a naked man. What does he gain? What does he lose? Did Gee lose respect as a rider for stripping down? Was his skill level questioned? Was he objectified as only as sex object, or out to exploit his physical attractiveness? No. Why? Because at the end of the day, it doesn't matter what Gee looks like. It doesn't matter what Steve Peat looks like, or Sam Hill. It doesn't matter because their value, as human beings, isn't tied to how they look... Because they're male.

I didn't create the double standard, nor do I support it. I'm an avid fan of discussing sexuality, social norms and am, in fact, not someone who's very conservative about anything along those lines. I am, however, a female athlete trying to keep my head above water in a world that would have me strip down, bend over and smile all while being a virgin. Is that crude? Yes. Is it the truth? Very much. Women are still bought and sold in this world as property. Look at women on the World Cup -- we've been assigned value not as what we're doing for ourselves and as our own genetic makeup dictates, but as to how we compare to the men.

 (2/2)

My sexuality doesn't belong in mountain biking because my sexuality doesn't influence my skills as a rider on a major basis. Part of who I am is linked to a sexual being, yes (everyone is unless they're Asexual, but don't get me started on the specifics of sexual psychology inside of personality formation), but it doesn't bear weight on my skills as an athlete. Should it? No. My skills are only comparative to those on similar competitive levels (for example, WC and national races, etc) and where I decide to take them and develop them. The way I look and my sexual choices outside of riding have ZERO to do with any of that.

That's the beauty of athletics -- they allow us to rise above our human limitations (appearance, thoughts, IQ) and perform truly superhuman feats of athletic performance. That's why the Olympics was created. I'm not saying that strip clubs are evil, I'm simply saying that mixing the Olympic Games and a strip club would combine two human arenas that I feel should be kept separate when it comes to professionals.

However, here's the thing: I don't have a problem with an athlete that is also a professional stripper on the side as a way to subsidize their finances. Quite honestly, I don't give a shit about whatever anyone else chooses to do. That's their call.

Inside of mountain biking, however, going to certain sexual extremes feels really perverted because then, the sport isn't about being the best at that sport or gaining attention for being good at that sport -- it's about who will go the farthest sexually.

So yes, at my core, I'm a purist -- keep MTB about bikes and sex about sex.

Riding the bike alone would have been cool. I don't seem to dig the whole sexual appeal starting as much as my masculine instincts want to naturally appreciate it. It's just kinda sad that you didn't have enough pride to pull it together using riding and showing your love for the sport. Your just adding to the problem and why women are looked at as sexual objects.

You don't know anything about me. I am allowed to have an opinion about the intro to this video as well as the comments posted, just like you're allowed to have an opinion about my comments. I've not attempted to question why you're here ...only prefer that sex and mountain biking be separated. I am here because I love mountain biking.

Regardless, don't worry about it. I will not post anything further and will no longer be a part of this website. Your desire to paint me as a prude or some other nonsense is well heard and I will find another more positive place to exist.

As for me, I spent years fighting cancer, unable to ride. Now, just on the other side, I give thousands of dollars and countless hours to trail building, enduro and advocacy related to this sport. Am I jealous that I am not able to ride like her? Hells yea -- and I'd bet many of you are as well. She's a badass rider - just like I posted.
  • 11 3
Don't quit the site over being called jealous by some commenter who minimized your opinion. That would be silly. You have your reasons for your views. State them or ignore the haters. That is the point of internet debate. Also, your personal struggle is wonderful info, but don't use it in fights. Your view is worth backing up without the cheap shot.
  • 8 7
@taletotell - exactly! My little girls love watching riding and sports vids with me, but I always prescreen them to make sure there aren't gratuitous shots of monster girls or this kind of crap in it.
  • 5 3
Ignore the ignorance, these haters are just stoked to mix Pornhub and Pinkbike
  • 11 4
Brianasaurus. Please don't leave pinkbike. The internet is indeed full of nonsense, but if it helps at all I do tend to find that on pinkbike most of the really offensive nonsense gets neg-propped into obscurity. Unlike sites like youtube where truly hateful comments seem to get the best receptions. Yes, due to the nature of the sport that this site focuses on it will indeed be populated primarily by hormone overloaded teenage boys who will do as hormone ridden teenage boys always do. But there is also an unusually high frequency of actual real worthy comment hidden in these comment sections.

I must say I do not agree with you that there is absolutely no place for sexiness in mountain biking. Yes women can often be found flaunting their bodies on any sports based website, as there are usually a lot of men looking. The thing is though, if you stick a man in a situation heavily populated by women he will do exactly the same thing, to the very best of his abilities. Look at any famous male pop singer. It never takes long at all between him realising there are a lot of women looking at him, and him starting to prance about in tight clothing and essentially milk it for all he's worth. We all just want to be loved. I don't think the fault lies with the flaunter, who essentially just wants people to like them, as is natural and normal, for any human. The fault surely lies with the viewer who can't look past this and see the person underneath?

Despite the fact that we disagree on this point. (and I must say I am even now slightly unsure of my argument, and will probably swing wildly back and forth on this topic for a long time yet) I think it would be a bad thing if anyone decided never to put forth their views again, just because some people said some stupid unfounded shit about a subject they can't possibly have any real insight on. The fact that ericbs needed to fall back on such crap merely proves that he has nothing of any real value to say.
  • 7 7
"The fact that ericbs needed to fall back on such crap merely proves that he has nothing of any real value to say". the point is that I put a smile on girls face, who produced an awesome video... who I don't even know... because someone else was bashing her. Brianasaurus's comments speak for herself, but I did feel I had to stick up for linda because someone else was trying to bring her down. sorry that Gabriel feels sticking up for a fellow shredder and young lady is nothing of real value....maybe brainasaurus and Gabriel-mission9 should apply for the national tabloids? keep this shit off pb bitches!

 ericbs,
Your contributions, expressed in the ways you have chosen, tend to weaken your arguments. Do you disagree? If so, could you explain how they do not. As others have pointed out, and with whom I agree, your choice of phrases has led to your argument becomming weak. You could make your points, which are points worth making, with much more effect if you refrained from personal attacks on people.

Interesting. Because I've never shown up to a blind date and had someone disappointed, nor have I ever been told I'm a ugly anywhere except the internet by little boys who have nothing better to do than blather on about things they don't understand because they're too busy wanking away. And yet, I would consider myself a feminist and a HUMANIST, and I've made comments to that effect above.

Just like it would be screwed up for a dude to portray himself as a sexual object and expect his riding video to make the front page of Pinkbike, it's screwed up for this sort of video to have made the front page.

If she were a dude, would this riding have gotten front page coverage?
