Google Indonesia Street View Car Gets Into Triple Crash

The Google driver hits a car, flees, hits another car, flees, hits a third car, and is finally taken into custody. Pinball, anyone?

Google Street View Car Accident

If you get into a bit of a fender-bender, it's probably best that you don't try to evade your responsibility… especially if you're driving one of Google's not-so-inconspicuous Street View cars.

You know, the ones painted up with Google (or Google Maps) imagery, likely driving along with a huge freakin' camera attached to the top. We're not all that savvy when it comes to running from an accident scene, but we're willing to venture that Google's Street View car is the last one you'd want to do it in.

According to the AFP, an Indonesian Street View driver in the Bogor district of Jakarta, Indonesia started his unhappy day by getting into a bit of a dust-up with a minivan while driving. The two vehicles allegedly then pulled into a garage for the customary exchanging of information and all that normal stuff that happens when you bump into someone else on the road. And then things got weird.

"He did accompany the minivan driver to the garage, but he said he was scared the repair fee would be high, so he got in his damaged car and fled," said Hendra Gunaan, of the Bogor district police, in an interview with the AFP.

Got into his damaged Google Street View car, we'd like to emphasize.

As the driver started to flee, the first minivan driver began to give chase. The pair got around two miles or so until the Google Street View driver – drumroll – smashed into his second minivan for the day.

In a move reminiscent of a film like It's a Mad Mad Mad Mad World, the undeterred Street View driver attempted to flee yet again. Shortly after he began his third attempt, however, he quickly crashed into a parked truck. He was then taken into custody.

The kicker? The damage to the original minivan has been estimated by authorities to cost roughly $17.50 to fix. We have absolutely no idea how much Google pays its Street View drivers in Indonesia, but that the repair bill doesn't seem like much of a princely sum.

According to BBC News, Google has confirmed that an accident took place, but declined to release any details in addition to that.

"We take incidents like this very seriously. We're working closely with local authorities to address the situation," said Vishnu Mahmud, head of communications for Google Indonesia.

It's unclear what charges the driver might face, if any, as a result of the accident(s).
