The nominations came just after the production received a Pulitzer Prize, the 9th musical ever to do so. Previously, “Billy Elliot” and “The Producers” held the record for the greatest number of Tony nominations, having received 15 each. “Hamilton” star Lin-Manuel Miranda was nominated for the creative trio of Best Actor in a Musical, Best Book and Best Original Score. A majority of the show’s lead or featured cast received nominations, including Leslie Odom Jr., who narrates the show in his role as Aaron Burr, Phillipa Soo, who plays Elizabeth Schuyler, and Renee Elise Goldsberry, who plays Angelica Schuyler. The show also swept the production categories, with nominations for costume design, lighting design and choreography. The revival of “She Loves Me,” which was first produced on Broadway in 1963, received eight nominations, including nods for leading actors Laura Benanti and Zachary Levi. Andrew Rannells and Nikki M. James announced the nominations for the 70th annual Tony Awards Tuesday morning. The awards will be hosted by James Corden and broadcast on CBS on Sunday, June 12 at 8 p.m. EDT.
