Biography: Best known for his role as the Marvel superhero Iron Man in Marvel's Cinematic Universe, including three Iron Man films opposite Gwyneth Paltrow and the ensemble Avengers films opposite fellow Marvel actors such as Chris Evans and Chris Hemsworth.
From 2012 to 2015 Downey was listed as the world's highest paid actor by Forbes Magazine.
Downey has been critically acclaimed for many of his roles, including for "Chaplin" (1992) a film portraying the life of silent star Charlie Chaplin. Downey earned an Academy Award nomination for Best Actor for the role and also won the BAFTA for Best Actor.
Downey struggled with a drug addiction earlier in his career and was arrested on drug charges on a number of occasions until 2001. Downey became sober after completing a court-ordered sobriety program and his career then recovered
