Elymus hystrix / Bottle Brush Grass

Though most of our grasses require full sun, bottle brush grass is one of our most shade-tolerant grasses, growing perfectly happy in part shade. As a cool season grass, it will produce vigorously in the spring and fall when the soil is cooler. This clumping grass produces delicate, bottle brush-like flowers in the fall, which in turn produce an abundance of seeds that will readily self sow.
