Mater Dei High graduate Colt Brennan has signed with the United Football League’s Hartford Colonials, NBCSports.com announced Friday.

Brennan, who played a season at Saddleback College, joins a Hartford quarterback depth chart that includes Josh McCown and UFL No. 1 overall pick Jerrod Johnson, a rookie from Texas A&M.

The Laguna Beach native was a sixth-round pick by the Redskins in 2008. He played in some preseason games with Washington, but was waived when the Redskins acquired John Beck from the Ravens last August. Brennan resurfaced briefly with the Raiders, but was let go at final cuts.

Last December, Brennan spent eight days in a Honolulu hospital after suffering multiple injuries (including broken ribs and a punctured lung and broken collarbone, cheekbone and eye socket) when an SUV driven by his girlfriend, Shakti Stream of Kona, collided with a sedan.

The Colonials are coached by Jerry Glanville.
