Conservative political commentator Nicolle Wallace and October Gonzalez — the wife of former NFL star tight end Tony Gonzalez — have emerged at top contenders to join The View, show sources confirm.
Wallace, who was George W. Bush’s communications director, and Gonzalez, who posed naked for a PETA ad, seemed to work well together Thursday when producers put them together for a mock test show.
The test gave them and other potential candidates like S.E. Cupp the chance to trade banter with co-hosts Rosie O’Donnell and Whoopi Goldberg.
Other women who tried out for the jobs Thursday included Ana Navarro, who previously worked on the campaigns of Sen. John McCain; Bloomberg TV managing editor Stephanie Ruhle; ESPN anchor Sage Steele; ESPN.com columnist Jemele Hill; and Fox’s “Good Day LA” co-host Lauren Sanchez.
On Thursday, outgoing “View” co-hosts Sherri Shepherd and Jenny McCarthy taped their last episode, which will air Monday.
