About The Life and Slimes of Marc Summers

The Life & Slimes of Marc Summers combines an interactive game show experience with the true life story of iconic television personality Marc Summers. Known for hosting Nickelodeon’s Double Dare and Food Network’s Unwrapped, Summers raised a generation on trivia and food, and this play delves deeper into the person behind the public persona. Get The Life & Slimes of Marc Summers tickets on New York Theatre Guide.

Co-produced by fellow Food Network favorite Guy Fieri, this immersive memoir offers an insider's view of Summers's remarkable life on and off the screen — including the struggles not always visible to the public. The show plays a 16-week limited run beginning February 14 at New World Stages.

What is Marc Summers famous for?

Beyond his renowned gigs with Nickelodeon and The Food Network, Summers also executive produced shows like Dinner: Impossible and Restaurant: Impossible in his two-decade TV career. This production, featuring Summers himself, courageously addresses not just the triumphs of fame but also the adversities, including his candid revelation of an ongoing struggle with OCD on Oprah’s talk show.

Who wrote The Life & Slimes of Marc Summers?

Alex Brightman, the playwright behind The Life & Slimes of Marc Summers, boasts a rich background as a Broadway actor. His breakout roles in Beetlejuice and School of Rock each earned him a Tony Award nomination for Best Actor in a Musical. As a writer, he developed an animated musical comedy, Cleaners, with Warner Brothers and a romantic comedy film, Singular, with 20th Century Studios.

Additionally, Cynthia Nixon directed a workshop of his stage play, Everything Is Fine, at Manhattan Theatre Club. Brightman is also collaborating on a musical adaptation of the hit novel It's Kind of a Funny Story alongside Drew Gasparini, the composer of The Life & Slimes of Marc Summers off Broadway.

See it if you're a fan of Marc Summers and 1980s/'90s Nickelodeon, or are interested in the life and work of TV personalities of that era.

Don’t see it if you don't know who Marc Summers is. I mean, you could see it without knowing him, but you may not feel as connected to him and his story.
