Cher, 76, Defends Dating 36-Year-Old: 'I Wasn't Born Yesterday'

It seems that Cher believes in life after love: The 76-year-old pop icon was spotted last week holding hands with a man roughly half her age.

Some Cher fans are sounding the alarm and appear concerned for her well-being, but the singer is defending her tryst with Alexander Edwards, 36.

In a tweet early Sunday morning, Cher posted a photo of Edwards, along with the caption, "Alexander [red heart emoji]." Several minutes later, she followed up in the thread with a tweet that read: "That was Then,This is now."

Cher and Edwards had been spotted together in West Hollywood last Wednesday on their way to meet with rapper Tyga. In September, the pair were also photographed during Paris Fashion Week.

One concerned fan wrote in response to Cher's Twitter thread about Edwards: "I'm not sure how I feel about this. I've been a fan for so long that I'm immediately suspicious of his intentions towards you. WE know you are fabulous and I'm sure your inner circle will continue to have your back. Want you to be happy, but not taken advantage of!!!"

Cher then gently pushed back and defended her relationship with her 36-year-old beau.

"As we All Know ...I WASNT BORN YESTERDAY,& What I Know For Sure...There Are No Guarantees," the songstress said in a tweet on Sunday afternoon. "Anytime you make a Choice You Take a Chance.I've Always Taken Chances...It's WHO I Am."

Edwards is a rapper-slash-music producer who goes by "A.E."––and who has collaborated with Tyga on multiple songs, Newsweek reported last week. He also dated Amber Rose, the 39-year-old model who was once linked romantically to Kanye West and who was previously married to rapper Wiz Khalifa.

Rose and Edwards split up back in August 2021, and the two have a 3-year-old son.

Cher spoke up about her new relationship in a series of tweets on Friday. After a fan wrote that the singer had a new boyfriend, she responded with an all-caps "YESSSSS."

In that thread, Cher also tried to reassure those who expressed worries about the 40-year age gap.

"LOVE DOESNT KNOW MATH, IT SEES [two red heart emojis]," the star wrote on Friday. "RINPOCHE TOLD ME 'SOME PPL MEET, OTHERS 'RECOGNIZE.'"

Cher has been married two times before, first to Sonny Bono and then to Gregg Allman. Her son Chaz Bono is 53 and her other son, Elijah Blue Allman, is 46.
