Blue Toad in 'New Super Mario Bros U Deluxe:' How to Unlock Character

New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe for the Nintendo Switch is now available and includes new features that were not released when the original game launched on the Wii U.

One of the biggest new features for the Switch port was the inclusion of Toadette, whose power to turn into Princess Peach grew into a brief Bowsette frenzy on the internet. And although Bowsette cannot actually happen (at least for now), Toadette's inclusion seemingly bumped Blue Toad from the ranks of the playable characters.

With the release of the game, it appears Blue Toad is actually a playable character but players will have to perform a simple input to do so.

HOW TO UNLOCK BLUE TOAD IN NEW SUPER MARIO BROS. U DELUXE

If you want to play as Blue Toad in New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe , you simply have to hover over Yellow Toad on the character select screen. Hold either ZL or L and Yellow Told will switch to Blue Toad.

By doing so, Blue Toad is now playable in any level of the game including those in the New Super Luigi U expansion.

However, it should be noted that if you're playing co-op in New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe you can't have a team consisting of Yellow and Blue Toad. You'll have to select one or the other, but they both have the same abilities.

Toad in New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe has the ability to perform a triple jump, giving the characters an extra advantage in the platforming game. Mario and Luigi have their usual abilities in platforming with Luigi being able to use a scuttle run that makes him a little faster.

The two new characters in New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe have more unique abilities. Toadette is able to use her Super Crown ability to have extra jumping abilities, gets more time to complete a level, and collect items inaccessible to other characters.

Nabbit is completely invulnerable to enemy attacks, giving younger or inexperienced players a more casual play experience Funky Kong-style.

New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe is available now on Nintendo Switch.
