Silhouette of doorway at Balinese Hindu Temple

A silhouette view of an archway at a Balinese Hindu Temple near Kintamani allows the viewer to see through the doorway to the carved spire of another similar temple archway. Each Balinese house compound has a family shrine or temple, and each village has at least three separate temples for different purposes. Territories and cooperative agricultural groups have separate temples whose festivals regulate the irrigation of successive rice fields throughout the island.
