Explanation or story behind the patch: The SR-71 was the fastest operational aircraft of all time. Its capabilities were known to exceed 80,000 feet altitude and over Mach 3 (later records were flown to 85,000 feet and Mach 3.35). The crews that flew these exotic and extreme aircraft were proud to wear the small “SR-71 Mach 3+” patch.
