By The Way, Fines Just Got Way More Expensive At Tons Of Toronto Parking Lots

Fines increased by 150% on June 1, and street parking enforcement is back.

Contributor

Failing to pay for parking at dozens of Toronto Green P lots will now cost you a lot more.

As of June 1, 2021, violation fines cost $75, up from the prior fine of $30, according to the Toronto Parking Authority (TPA).

TPA says that because the $30 fine amounted to less than the cost of parking for an 8-hour period, "some customers are electing to park without paying for parking because the risk and cost of receiving a Parking Violation Notice (PVN) is less than the cost of parking for a full day."

The fine increase is now in effect at many high-demand lots around the city, from North York to the downtown core and everywhere in between. TPA has provided a complete list of all the locations.

Toronto police have also resumed street parking enforcement now that reopening has begun. "Enforcement will include overtime violations such as three-hour by-law and posted time limits, residential change-over parking regulations, and on-street pay and display violations," police stated.

As of Monday, June 21, "routine enforcement of residential on-street permit violations" also resumed, meaning you'll have to be more mindful of the rules on side streets again.
