The Leafs Are Becoming The First NHL Team To Be Run By At Least 2 Women
This isn't the first time Hayley Wickenheiser and Danielle Goyette have made history together!🏅
The Toronto Maple Leafs have announced two directors on the team's player development department.
Dr. Hayley Wickenheiser and Danielle Goyette are now the department's senior director and director, respectively, overseeing every stage of player development from potential recruits to the Leafs' current roster. According to The Toronto Star, it is an NHL first to have two women run the department.
Wickenheiser, who is being promoted from the director position to senior director, hired her former teammate Danielle Goyette to step in as her replacement. Goyette is also the former head coach of the University of Calgary's women's hockey team.
"I am very excited to be working with someone I have literally shed blood, sweat and tears with for 25 yrs", tweeted Wickenheiser.
Goyette and Wickenheiser were both a part of the Canadian women's Olympic hockey team and won two gold medals together in 2002 and 2006. They also earned six gold medals at world championships together. The pair are also both inductees to the Hockey Hall of Fame under the player category.
The promotion is another step up for Wickenheiser, who graduated from medical school just last week.
