These 12 km Sand Dunes In Ontario Will Make You Feel Like You're In The Caribbean

At Sandbanks Provincial Park, you'll find the world's largest baymouth barrier dune formation! The dunes were formed 12,500 years ago by glaciers, and now there is a vast 12-kilometre stretch of golden sand. Visiting this picturesque park, you'll feel like you've been transported to the Caribbean, as all you see is a long sandy beach with clear blue water.

Sandbanks Provincial Park makes the perfect summer getaway spot in Ontario. It is only 2.5 hours away from Toronto, or three hours away from Ottawa. Within Sandbanks, you can find three beaches: Outlet Beach, Sandbanks Beach and Dunes Beach, which are all great spots to go swimming.

One of the best ways to explore the massive dune is by hiking the Sandbanks Dunes Trail. The easy 2.5-kilometre loop trail will lead you through the dune and give you a pretty lookout point at the top of West Lake. You'll want to have your camera ready, as there are some great photo opportunities.

If you are looking to enjoy a weekend getaway at Sandbanks Dunes, there are campgrounds within the park, along with plenty of nearby cottages that you can rent.
