FAQ

What is a belly cast?! Designed to immortalize the life-changing physical and emotional transformation of pregnancy, belly casts are 3D plaster molds of a mother-to-be’s growing bump or full torso, usually done a couple of weeks to a month before giving birth.

When? It is best to make your belly cast between 35-38 weeks of pregnancy. That will maximize the size of your belly while not waiting too long just in case your baby comes early.

WHAT does getting a belly cast involve?
Answer - a layer of Vaseline is applied to your pregnant belly and/or any other area that is forming part of the cast and then strips of wet medical grade plaster bandage are smoothed on to your skin.  For those Mamas who would prefer to have their lovely belly slathered in something other than Vaseline, I also offer a non-petroleum option of 100% virgin coconut oil.  The bandage is built up into layers to strengthen the finished sculpture.  As it dries the plaster hardens and the cast gently starts to come away from the skin.  This safe, simple, and painless process takes about 1-1.5 hours.  It is recommended that you have a shower to remove any excess Vaseline/coconut oil or plaster once you get home but wipes/water/towels will be available at the casting session for you to use.  Please let me know in advance if you have any allergies or particularly sensitive skin.

WORRIED about getting your boobs out?
Don't be! As an experienced belly cast artist I’ve seen it all before and you're not exposed for that long anyhow as I work quickly to get the plaster bandage on.  You can choose to have your cast done wearing a smooth/strapless bra if you choose - I can just cover it with cling film and cast over top - but results are better without one
