Spray agent with lubricating and water displacing action, with high ability to penetrate crevices. Its main ingredients are hydrocarbons.

The long-lasting component is a non-volatile, viscous oil that remains on the surface, providing lubrication and protection against moisture. It is diluted by the volatile hydrocarbon to obtain a low-viscosity liquid that can be used for spraying and thus get into the crevices of the mechanism.

Examples of applications include lubricating and loosening joints and hinges, removing dirt, removing stuck screws and bolts, and preventing corrosion. The product can also be useful in removing moisture.

WD-40 is mainly known for its multifunctional product of the same name, but the company also produces a variety of very high quality motorcycle care products.

WD-40 stands for Water Displacement, 40th Attempt and was developed in 1953 by Norm Larsen's Rocket Chemical Company in San Diego, California.

They attempted to develop a formula for an agent that prevented corrosion by leaching (displacing) the accumulated water that causes it. They succeeded on their fortieth attempt.
