Joleon Lescott will leave Manchester City in July, chief executive Ferran Soriano has confirmed.

The defender, who arrived from Everton for £24m in 2009, will depart the Etihad when his contract expires later this summer.

"Joleon Lescott is finishing his contract and is leaving," said Soriano.

"Joleon has been a key player for us. Not only for what he did on the pitch but also his leadership and character in the team. We wish him well.

"Some players leave and some new players will come. We're not changing the base of the team."

Lescott was linked with moves to Newcastle and Tottenham back in January, while Turkish side Besiktas were also understood to be keen on the 31-year-old.
