The Blue Hour

During a visit to Vietnam in November 2022, the morning of the 24th involved an early morning taxi ride from Hoi An to Da Nang International Airport. Setting off at 5.30am while it was still dark, the skies gradually gained a surreal blue quality (a period during twilight known as the ‘Blue Hour’, when the Sun is still below the horizon and blue light appears in the ozone). These photos are long exposures and, due to being in motion and the small amount of light involved, not fully in focus. Although this wasn’t initially intentional, after taking the first few, I found that they nicely reflected the dream-like quality of my tiredness at the time, so I embraced this and continued to photograph the hazy views from the window in this way.
