Aerosmith are preparing their farewell tour after 53 years of performing continuously. This Monday they have announced the dates for their final concerts, which will begin on September 2 in Philadelphia as part of a tour called 'Peace Out'.

It will be a total of 40 shows, which will pass through the band's hometown of Boston on New Year's Eve 2024, ending on January 26 in Montreal.

"I think it's about time," explained guitarist Joe Perry.

"It's kind of a chance to celebrate the 50 years we've been here.

"You never know how much longer everyone will be healthy enough to do this.

"It's been a while since we've done a real tour. We did that run in Vegas, which was great. It was fun, but we're a little anxious to get back on the road."

Steven Tyler was more flamboyant in his description of the upcoming tour.

"We're opening Pandora's Box one last time to introduce our fans to the 'Peace Out' tour," Tyler explained in a statement to The Associated Press.

His reference to Pandora's Box mentions the 1991 three-disc compilation album that covered the band's output from the 1970s through the early 1980s.

That said, the band explained drummer Joey Kramer has decided not to participate in the upcoming tour dates.

"While Joey Kramer remains a beloved founding member of Aerosmith, he has regrettably made the decision to sit out the currently scheduled touring dates to focus his full attention on his family and health," a statement read.

"He will be replaced by John Douglas.

"It's the final farewell tour, but I have a feeling it will go on for a while. But I don't know how many times we'll be coming back to the same cities. It could very possibly be the last time."
