Kellie Pickler is a country music star who rose to fame thanks to American Idol, and over the years became a star of the genre, in addition to having her own television show. Today Kellie is mourning the death of her husband, songwriter Kyle Jacobs, who was 49 years old.

The Nashville Metropolitan Police Department reported that Jacobs was found dead in his home, and an apparent suicide is being investigated. Authorities said Jacobs' body was found in the couple's Nashville home, from where they received a 911 call.

"Mr. Jacobs' wife, Kellie Pickler, reported that she awoke shortly before, did not see her husband and began searching for him," the statement said. "After she and her personal assistant were unable to open the upstairs bedroom/office door, the assistant phoned 911."

Jacobs had good success as a songwriter

Jacobs and Pickler married in 2011 and a few years later starred in the reality show "I Love Kellie Pickler" on CMT, which ran from 2015 to 2017. As a songwriter, Jacobs co-wrote Garth Brooks' 2007 hit single "More Than a Memory," as well as Tim McGraw's "Still" and Eli Young Band's "Dust."

Jacobs also produced several Lee Brice hits, including "I Drive Your Truck," "Rumor," "Hard to Love" and "Drinking Class." Other artists who have recorded his songs include Trace Adkins, Jo Dee Messina, Craig Morgan and Scotty McCreery.

For her part, Pickler competed in the fifth season of American Idol, where she finished in sixth place and was considered one of the show's top students.

Pickler released her latest album, The Woman I Am, in 2013.
