About Lloyd Kahn

Lloyd Kahn started building his own home in the early '60s and went on to publish books showing homeowners how they could build their own homes with their own hands. He got his start in publishing by working as the shelter editor of the Whole Earth Catalog with Stewart Brand in the late '60s. He has since authored six highly-graphic books on homemade building, all of which are interrelated. The books, "The Shelter Library Of Building Books," include Shelter, Shelter II (1978), Home Work (2004), Builders of the Pacific Coast (2008), Tiny Homes (2012), and Tiny Homes on the Move (2014). Lloyd operates from Northern California studio built of recycled lumber, set in the midst of a vegetable garden, and hooked into the world via five Mac computers. One Response to Mr. Sharkey’s Housetruck/Housebus Website Is Back

  1. Hey Mr Skarkey!!

Do you remember me? Gary Stadler from the old days… 1962 Crown bus, etc…
Like you, I got old (73) but Im still kicking. My crown has pretty much died- it was one of theh few with a shell made of steel and it’s rusting out,
and the last guy who drove it (not me) broke the tranny. Ugh

I recently bought a Promaster van that’s been hacked with a Tesla motor, solar recharging and 180 mile range. Im gonna outfit it as a camper, but it doesnt have the range I need to go distances.

Do you have, or know someong who has a good running diesel pusher trailer I could buy? That would perfect it. Not sure I have the stamina to make one of my own at this point, but I will if I have to.

Good hearing your still kicking. Man what strange wonderful life I’ve had. Hoping the same for you!!

    Kindest regards
    Gary Stadler
