A different conversation for #worldbookday. This week I was flicking through a spiderman comic from Marvel Entertainment (not my usual reading material, which might quickly become apparent). I was saddened by the level of violence throughout - and completely incomprehensible plot or narrative. But the thing that shook me most were these images. I've been holding onto this all week, debating whether to say anything for fear of backlash from an audience I'm totally disconnected to. I know there is a whole world of love for comics that I do not understand. But I just can't get over the violence of this image that is being presented (and aimed at) our teenage children. The boy in this image has been "taken over" by a villain through his mobile phone. The girl in the image is his mum. This World Book Day and #internationalwomensday2024 I have two asks. 🙏 Please can we stop the violence, intimidation and degrading of women. In all its forms. 🙏 Organisations that are creating content for our children. Do you have the right diversity in your creative and editorial teams that can provide the right checks and balances for your content? Let's lift each other up in society and stop tearing each other down.
