What's the buzz in British Columbia this May??? It's not just the bees -- it's BC #Mining Month! For more than 100 years, the mining industry has been foundational for the province, providing high-paying jobs, contracting and supply opportunities, tax revenue for all levels of government, and economic reconciliation with Indigenous Peoples. Every May, we showcase and celebrate those invaluable contributions as well as the industry's pivotal role in meeting the global demand for the raw #minerals and #metals needed to transition to a low-carbon, more sustainable future. The 17 mines and 2 smelters across BC collectively sustain 35,000 jobs, generate more than $18 billion in economic activity, and account for close to 30% of provincial exports. They also support 4000 small, medium, and Indigenous-affiliated businesses, injecting nearly $4 billion into the local economy annually. As we look ahead, with predictions indicating a six-fold increase in demand for metals and minerals by 2040 to meet ambitious climate goals like the Paris Climate Agreement, the potential of mining in BC is larger than ever. In addition to operating mines and smelters, the province is home to 14 new critical mineral projects and 2 expansions combining for a potential long-term economic impact of $800 billion if all are built. Join me in celebrating Mining Month and sharing BC’s mining and critical mineral potential. Together, we can drive positive change, foster economic growth, and create a lasting legacy of responsible mining for generations to come. After all, every BC community is a mining community. #Engineering #Geoscience #MiningIndustry #NetZero

Let’s be mindful of the tremendous opportunities in the mining sector for employment and contracting for years to come!

2wMark Adams a great post showcasing the importance of Mining in BC to kick off Mining Month in our province. Another great example we can celebrate is how the Mining Industry comes together every spring to give back to our community and improve health for children and their families by fundraising for BC Children's Hospital Foundation through Mining for Miracles. Since 1988 the Mining Industry of BC has raised over $40M in areas of critical need for BC Children's Hospital. We've just launched our 2024 Pie Throw with some amazing industry leaders raising funds for a great cause. Our Why: https://youtu.be/CFxbDkmnB4A Donate Here: https://lnkd.in/gZMc9jJy
