Honoured to have been part of Team RBC at Bathurst’s first Walk to Make Cystic Fibrosis History! What a phenomenal event to raise funds and awareness. It was a wonderful way to come together as a community to support those impacted by this condition. Huge kudos to the organizers! We look forward to next year already! Restorative justice is an approach to addressing harm and conflicts that prioritizes healing, accountability, and community involvement. It seeks to repair the harm caused by a wrongdoing by actively involving all affected parties in a process that promotes understanding, dialogue, and collective responsibility. Restorative justice moves beyond punishment, aiming to foster empathy, reconciliation, and long-term transformation.
For example, in a restorative justice approach, instead of solely focusing on punishment for a crime, there may be a community conference where the victim, offender, and relevant community members come together to discuss the harm caused and find ways to repair it. This could involve discussing the impact of the crime on the community, addressing underlying racial biases, and developing strategies to support the rehabilitation and reintegration of the offender while prioritizing the needs and healing of the victim. This process aims to restore relationships, promote healing, and challenge systemic injustices.
