User Interfaces as we know it, will not be relevant next decade.
Fluently conversing systems would be how we interact. This does not mean all visual elements will go away, data representation and data manipulation tools may largely look similar but with a lot more intelligence and that means fewer menus, toolbars, functions etc., but being able to do what we ask it to do.
The era of computing as we have known it since the 1940s is coming to a close. Where human machine interaction has always been less than ideal. It’s gotten better over the decades, but not to a human conversational model.
ChatGPT and the like are our first foray into the realm of intelligent systems. Systems that we can interact with as we would with a colleague.
All UI and UX and computing tools (devices, OS, apps etc.,) will be fully capable of passing the Turing test in the future.
2030s and beyond will look very different than present day.
The biggest enablers of these will be chip technology, OS and device makers. Figma will become a figment of history.
This indeed is a great opportunity for a new category of innovators to come in and take the lead from present day tech titans. This is an inflection point in tech evolution and one that only promises to make human experience with technology better.
The era of mindless scrolling (which keeps social media alive with advertising) is soon to be over with this decade. When interaction becomes two way and human like in syntax and semantics, there will be no tolerance for advertising. Advertising is a one way communication model and thus can’t survive as such in a two way communication interface.
