    The Global Studies - Security and Justice major at UVA is an honors major in which accepted students work with an advisor to tailor their studies to specific issues. I initially concentrated my studies on post-conflict governance, with classes on genocide, politics of developing nations, economics, and state building theory.

    The Global Studies - Security and Justice major at UVA is an honors major in which accepted students work with an advisor to tailor their studies to specific issues. I initially concentrated my studies on post-conflict governance, with classes on genocide, politics of developing nations, economics, and state building theory.
    After 3 years of Mandarin Language courses, I narrowed my focus to East Asia through classes on Chinese history, the high income trap in East Asia, and a capstone thesis on China's policies toward religious tolerance. I graduated with a minor in East Asian Studies.

    I am now interested in Sino-American strategic competition, China's growing presence in East Africa, as well as the role business can play in regional and global stability.

    Summer Language Intensive Mandarin Language

    This summer intensive was fully immersive, with a pledge to only speak in Mandarin inside and outside the classroom for nine weeks. Alongside graduate students of Fudan's Mandarin teaching program, we learned through classroom instruction, small group discussions, 1 on 1 dialogue, required language activities, out of classroom integration, writing essays, oral presentations, a weekly history course, and organized field trips.
