We’re so excited to share this short documentary, “Moonshot to Milestones”. Filmed and created by Chung Nguyen, it chronicles the development of our All-Weather 120V window heat pump through the Clean Heat for All Challenge, spearheaded by the New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA), NYSERDA, and New York Power Authority. We can’t thank you enough, Chung Nguyen for your incredible work behind the camera and for giving Gradient a new outlet to share our story.

We make home heaters & air conditioners that are better for the planet, easier to install, and more pleasant to use.
About us
Gradient’s mission is to cool the world by transforming every home to be more comfortable and healthy for the people who inhabit it — without compromising the environment. Today, heating and cooling equipment emits more greenhouse gas emissions than the entire transportation sector, and expansion in the use of cooling is projected to double these emissions in the next 30 years. However, comfortable buildings are critical for health and productivity, especially among communities that are vulnerable to the effects of climate change. Gradient’s vision is a future where everyone has access to comfortable buildings that are fully decarbonized. Our flagship product is a high-efficiency and low-carbon window heat pump suited for moderate climates; our second-generation window heat pump, the All-Weather 120V, is suited for cold climates.

Despite our grid's reliance on fossil fuels, the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) has found that heat pumps significantly reduce carbon emissions in every U.S. state. Here's why heat pumps are a smart choice: Reduce emissions: Heat pumps can cut household energy emissions by 36% to 64% annually. Economically viable: 59% of households can save money with heat pumps, even without subsidies. Immediate impact: Adopting heat pumps now avoids locking in decades of emissions from less efficient heating sources. Thanks to CleanTechnica for sparking an insightful conversation on heat pumps. https://bit.ly/4a5izdE

Today’s episode is a cool one: I’m speaking with a self-proclaimed ‘thermodynamics nerd’ who is revolutionizing how we heat and cool our homes, while drastically cutting emissions. Meet Vince Romanin, CEO and co-founder of Gradient, and guest on today’s episode of Consensus in Conversation. Born in a small town in Ohio, Vince’s curiosity for engineering was sparked early on by his love for model rockets. His journey took him from tinkering with four-wheelers to earning an M.S. and Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from University of California, Berkeley. And that was just the beginning of his story. At Otherlab, a ‘mad scientist playground’ in San Francisco, Vince realized that the HVAC industry was ripe for innovation. HVAC systems are responsible for almost 20% of global greenhouse gas emissions, and Vince saw an opportunity to make a significant impact. In 2021, Vince co-founded Gradient with a clear mission: to create a heat pump system that combines personal heating and cooling into one, easy-to-install unit that reduces emissions by 95%. Gradient’s heat pumps are not just environmentally friendly—they are designed to be user-friendly and visually appealing. Vince’s goal is to make zero-carbon HVAC a reality without compromising on comfort or aesthetics. In this episode, Vince shares his journey, the challenges of launching a clean tech startup, and why innovative HVAC systems are crucial for our future. Tune in to hear: ❄️Vince’s early influences and career journey ❄️The revolutionary technology behind Gradient ❄️How heat pumps can decarbonize infrastructure 💫 And, don’t miss Vince’s breakdown of the thermal sensory experience. It’s wild. Click the link in the comments to listen to the full episode. Executive Recruiter For Climate Tech 🌎 Climate Tech Startups Hire Me to Find Senior Technical Leaders & Executives
I was floored by the emotional depth, wisdom, and range of experiences shared by the panelists during the discussion I hosted and moderated last week at SF Climate Week's session “Breaking Barriers: Women Leaders in Climate Tech”. Panelists spoke about role models, support systems, coaches, tapping into inner strength and the factors that facilitate and stymie the progress and growth of women in leaders in climate tech. We also talked about the "imposter syndrome" and how and whether this sentiment goes away after a certain amount of career success. Thanks to all of the speakers for your honesty and generosity: Julia Souder, Folasade Ayoola, Mujinga Mwamufiya, Banu Alkaya Aksoy, Karen Baert, and Jillian DelVecchio (SHRM-CP) Also, a special thank you to Lale Basak and The Key PR! #climatetech #womenleaders #motivation
