About Rafael Goldchain

Rafael Goldchain is a Canadian photographer. His photographs are in the collections museums including the Ryerson Image Centre, the National Gallery of Canada, the Bibliotheque Nationale de France, the Museum of Modern Art, and the Biblioteca Nacional de Chile. Born in 1953 of Polish-Jewish heritage in Santiago, Chile Goldchain was educated in Jerusalem, Israel before moving to Toronto. He earned a MA in Art History at the University of Toronto, an MFA at York University, and a BAA in Photography at Ryerson University.

Goldchain was a runner up for the prestigious Scotia Bank Photography Prize (2015), as well as receiving the Duke and Duchess of York Prize in Photography (1989), and the Leopold Godowsky Prize in Photography (1989).
