Natural History

Predictably hailing from Northern Chile, these spiders can also be found in Argentina and Bolivia too. Their preferred habitat is desert scrubland and they are usually active in the evening or night. Their attractive colouration and easy handling has made Chilean Rose tarantulas the most popular pet spider species for several decades.

These spiders grow to have a leg-span around 13-15cm (5-6in). As is typical for tarantulas, male spiders have considerably shorter life spans than their female counterparts. Males will usually live for around 3-7 years, whereas females can live for over 20 years.
