Evansville, Indiana

Evansville, Indiana, is the very definition of a college town. It's home to two different colleges, the small, private institution of University of Evansville and the much larger University of Southern Indiana. There's so much to do, and not just things college students would enjoy! Evansville is fun for the whole family and great for a romantic getaway or a weekend trip with friends.

Evansville was a vital place of operations in World War II - there's a lot of history from the early 20th century to explore! You can take a tour of the USS LST Ship Memorial and learn about the ship's importance to World War II, or visit the Reitz Home Museum or the Evansville Museum of Arts, History, and Science for a diverse cultural education about the town and the area. Evansville was a big industrial spot in the early 1900s and helped pull the country out of the Great Depression, which is fascinating to learn about at each of these different attractions!

For the more outdoorsy types, there are plenty of fun places to go! Head over to the Mesker Park Zoo and Botanic Garden where you can get up close to jaguars, giraffes, and more. You can also walk around the popular Burdette Park, or go to the Angel Mounds State Historic Site, a Native American monument. The Wesselman Woods Nature Preserve is another great spot for seeing rare, beautiful flora in the undisturbed area and purchasing sweet and delicious maple syrup made from the preserve's trees.

Evansville is extremely kid friendly! Children of all ages can enjoy everything mentioned, but for a kid-focused place, check out the Children's Museum of Evansville for a hands-on, interactive experience kids will love.

And of course, this is a college area, so there are tons of bars, clubs, and all kinds of nightlife (especially downtown), plus great food and activities to keep the students busy. If the theatre or the arts are more your speed, the University of Evansville is known for their theatre degree program and regularly has a mainstage production, or there are several local orchestras and music groups. There's always something going on in Evansville and it's never far away!
