Jessica Stam, Model, Before She Became An Icon (PHOTO)

Jessica Stam Was Way Ahead Of Her Time On This Trend

There are few models who manage to stay in the biz for over a decade, but Jessica Stam can count herself as one of the lucky few. The Canadian stunner had no plans to become a model (in fact, she wanted to become a dentist), until she got discovered at Tim Hortons... how cliché? From there she went on to become Steven Meisel's muse, cover countless issues of Vogue and even have a Marc Jacobs bag named in her honor -- this gal is in a class of her own.

In celebration of Stam's 27th birthday (on April 23), we are taking a look back at an old photo of the model. In this 2004 snap, we see the leggy beauty at the Isaac Mizrahi for Target launch in an ensemble that is very different from her current sartorial tastes. Here, she is wearing a pair of relaxed blue jeans, an oversized T-shirt and a simple brown bag. The only evidence that she is a discerning fashionista comes from what look to be wedge sneakers -- she was years ahead of her time on those. Supermodels must have a sixth sense about fashion trends.
