Location: Newmarket, Suffolk. Nestled in Racing’s Headquarters lies James Ferguson Racing, located in the historic setting of Kremlin Cottage Stables.
James brings a wealth of knowledge to the table, having served his time under Racing greats such as Sir Mark Prescott and Jessica Harrington.
Since setting up training in 2019 James has highlighted himself as one of the leading young trainers in the country. In his first season he trained Zoetic to win The St Hughes’s Fillies Stakes (listed). This was only a flicker of what was to come. In his second season training he picked up his first Group 1 when El Bodegon made all to win the Criterium De Saint-Cloud (Group 1). Prior to this the 2yr old son of Kodiac won the Prix De Conde (Group 3) at Chantilly. James’ success with fillies was showcased again in 2020 when Qatar Racing Limited’s filly Mise En Scene took the Prestige Stakes (Group 3) at Goodwood. Other notable winners included First Folio who took The Pavers Foundation Catherine Memorial Sprint Heritage Handicap at York and earning £38,655 in prize money.
This season has seen yet more pattern race success. Deauville Legend, who was always respected as a 2yr old, has come to earth as one of the stable stars. He ran in the King George VI Heritage Handicap at Royal Ascot where he was narrowly defeated into 2nd place. On his next start he won The Bahrain Trophy (Group 3) at Newmarket’s July meeting. He has shown he can consistently perform at the top level; on his most recent start he carried a penalty to finish 2nd behind New London in The Gordon Stakes (Group 3) at Goodwood. El Bodegon has also proven that he has progressed from 2-3, he finished 2nd in the Prix De Jockey Club (Group 1) behind Vadeni, who has since gone on to win the Eclipse (Group 1) at Sandown beating the likes on Mishriff and Native Trail. Both horses hold entries for The Spring Carnival Meeting in Melbourne, Australia. El Bodegon also holds an entry for the Prix de L’Arc de Triomphe at Longchamp.
