It's time for beige to take a backseat.

If your fashion taste generally sees you lean more towards neutrals than neons, listen up. Because while ‘tonal beiges’ have reigned supreme within this space over recent years, there's finally a new neutral in town that's ready to usurp the - let's be honest - slightly bland hue.

Introducing: Butter Stick Fashion.

No you're not hallucinating, we are recommending that you take your sartorial cues from every bread roll's best friend. Because whether it's spread across some sourdough, melting into a pile of new potatoes or taking the form of a sexy, silky slip dress, there's little more delicious than butter.

And it seems some of the industry's biggest names are also on something of a dairy high right now, with everyone from JW Anderson and Jil Sander to Max Mara, Loewe and Tory Burch having forecasted the trend during their spring/summer 2023 shows.

Showing no sign of slowing down, the likes of Givenchy, Zimmermann, Tove, Cecilie Bahnsen, Christopher Kane and A.W.A.K.E. Mode all showcased a heavy dose of butter throughout their autumn/winter 2023 shows back in February, suggesting that you needn't worry about this being a fleeting trend and that any money you spend on the buttery aesthetic will serve you well for seasons and seasons to come.

While yellow is not a colour that many of us find easy to wear, this softer, more muted and pastel take on the colour completely transforms it and renders it genuinely universally flattering.

It's also far easier to wear than other pastels, with its close likeness to an off-white shade allowing it to be considered a neutral and therefore an easy pairing piece.

Beautiful worn with everything from olive greens to pastel pinks, whites, navies, violets and even metallics, there's quite literally no colour that's off-bounds when it comes to putting a look together with this hue.

There is, however, one way to wear it that outranks all others, and that's via a full head-to-toe stick of butter moment.

Loved by the street style set, you only had to take the briefest glimpse at show-goers during February's global fashion month runways to see how fashion insiders are tackling the trend.

And while head-to-toe proved a popular option among attendees, there were also endless examples of buttery pieces being paired with other neutral staples in black, white and brown.

Providing something of an elevated take on the industry's current obsession with all things neutral, there's a sense of understated luxuriousness - or, of course, ‘quiet luxury’, if you're on TikTok - about this soft yellow shade.

It's show-stopping and hypnotic in the most subtle of ways, and is the perfect way to elevate an outfit if you're not in the mood for anything too ‘look-at-me’.

Even the oat-milk-obsessed, dairy-free among us are finding it difficult to resist this one…
