Back to Cousins Beach! The Summer I Turned Pretty, the multigenerational drama and coming of age story focusing on Isabel “Belly” Conklin, has officially been renewed for a third season. Prime Video made the announcement on August 3, 2023, while also revealing some big news in the process: it will be the biggest season yet.

Season two hasn’t even finished airing (as of early August, there are three episodes left), but this will no doubt make fans delighted. Of course, it’s also expected, given the success of the Jenny Han series for Amazon and Prime Video (season two is one of the 10 most watched seasons of any series ever on the service). Plus, Han’s work is a trilogy

Here's the clip that Prime Video released to announce the news:

So what do we know about the upcoming third season? Read on for everything, and we’ll continue to keep you updated as more announcements come through.

When will season 3 of The Summer I Turned Pretty premiere?

Probably sometime in 2024, but it all depends on how long the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes last. According to Prime Video’s press release, season three was officially greenlit ahead of the strikes, which means before May 2 (it was just kept under wraps until now). Prime Video has also said that production will not begin until after labor negotiations with those unions have been resolved.

How many episodes will there be?

As we said, get ready for the biggest season yet! Season one consisted of 7 episodes; season two consists of 8; and…drumroll please…season three will be 10 episodes.

There are only three books. Does that mean season three will be the last?

Vernon Sanders, head of television for Amazon and MGM Studios, said in a statement that “this charming, deeply heartfelt series has shown the breadth of our customer base, appealing to a young, diverse set of viewers. Jenny Han is a gifted storyteller, whose fans have been clamoring for the third chapter of this story. We’re excited today to share the news that they have a lot more Summer to look forward to.”

Depending on how much you read into that statement, the show is clearly a runaway hit for Amazon, and they’d be crazy not to want more. The third book in Han’s series is called We’ll Always Have Summer; perhaps the material will be stretched out over additional seasons or  Belly’s story will be expanded upon. Given that a lot happens in the third book, it’s certainly possible, and there’s so much more story to tell in these character’s lives.

Which cast members will return for season three?

Obviously Lola Tung (Belly), Christopher Briney (Conrad), and Gavin Casalegno (Jeremiah), but no official announcements have been made.

What else do we know about season three?

According the official press release, it will be led by showrunners Jenny Han and Sarah Kucserka. Also, Han, Kucserka, and Karen Rosenfelt serve as executive producers, along with Hope Hartman, Mads Hansen, and Paul Lee for Wiip. The series is a co-production of Amazon Studios and Wiip.
