Glenn Brown at the unveiling of In the end we all succumb to the pull of the molten core (2016), Gagosian Grosvenor Hill, 15 November 2016. Photographer Belinda Lawley

An exclusive studio visit with internationally acclaimed artist Glenn Brown, in conversation with Contemporary Art Society director Caroline Douglas.

Brown is known for the use of art historical references in his paintings and starting with reproductions from other artist's works, he transforms the appropriated image by changing its colour, position and size.

Glenn Brown (born 1966) is associated with the generation of artists known as the YBAs (Young British Artists), who came to prominence in the late 1980s, and showed with them in a number of exhibitions that came to define the period.  Since that time Brown’s work has been shown and collected by some of the most prestigious institutions worldwide. In 2016 the Contemporary Art Society donated the first Glenn Brown work to a UK public collection through their Great Works scheme, with the support of the artist and the Sfumato Foundation. In the end we all succumb to the pull of the molten core (2016) was painted specially for the Laing Art Gallery in Newcastle and forms the centrepiece of their current exhibition, curated by Brown, that features new works by the artist alongside his own arrangement of pictures and sculptures selected from the Laing collection.

Caroline Douglas has been Director of the Contemporary Art Society since October 2013, where she has overseen the donation of over £3 million worth of art to public collections throughout the UK. Prior to the Contemporary Art Society, Douglas was Head of the Arts Council Collection from 2006 and a curator at the British Council from 1994 to 2006. She holds an MA from the Courtauld.

Organised by the Contemporary Art Society in collaboration with Frieze and Gagosian.

Refreshments will be served and the tour will start promptly.
