Cap'n Crunch Added To Quaker Oats Recall List Over Salmonella Concerns — Here's The Full List

Following

Topline

Quaker Oats recalled dozens of products due to potential salmonella contamination Thursday, including several types of Cap’n Crunch cereals and cereal bars, Gatorade bars and additional Chewy granola bars, expanding on a December recall of bars and cereal.

Key Facts

The company has launched a website with a full list of all products included in both recalls where consumers can request reimbursement.

The new list of products includes three Cap’n Crunch Cereals—the OOPS! All Berries, Cinnamon Crunch and Sea Berry Crunch brands—as well as Cap’n Crunch instant oatmeal products and four Cap’n Crunch cereal bar products.

The expansion also includes Gatorade peanut butter chocolate protein bars, Munchies Snack Mix, other Quaker cereals like Quaker Cinnamon Oatmeal Squares and Chewy granola bar varieties.

Those products are in addition to the products included in the Dec. 15 recall, which listed more than two dozen varieties of Chewy granola bars, eight varieties of Quaker granola cereals and granola bars included in several Quaker and Frito-Lay snack boxes.

The company said in December it had received no confirmed reports of illness related to the recalled products—Forbes has contacted Quaker for more information on what prompted the recall or whether any illnesses have been identified since December.

What To Watch For

Consumers can scan a SmartLabel QR code on the packaging to determine if it’s been recalled. Customers who have purchased these products should dispose of them.

Key Background

The company informed the Food and Drug Administration of the recall on Thursday after making a similar notification back in December. According to the FDA, salmonella is a bacteria that can cause illness and sometimes fatal infections, especially in young children, frail or elderly people as well as others with weakened immune systems. The products covered in the recalls are sold nationwide, as well as in Puerto Rico, Guam and Saipan.

Tangent

Quaker Oats joins several other food brands subject to recalls right now. Benny T’s dry hot sauces were recently recalled due to the undisclosed inclusion of wheat flour, a potential allergen. WanaBana, Schnucks and Weis baby food pouches remain the subject of an FDA investigation due to recalls late last year over lead and chromium contamination.
