Tommy Lee Jones

Just last month we reported on the sudden rumor that Tommy Lee Jones might have a role in Captain America: The First Avenger. Now it looks like we have the best official confirmation we can get short of an actual press release from Marvel as ComicBookMovie (via Collider) talked with Hayley Atwell (who plays Cap's love interest Peggy Carter) and she confirmed that Jones will indeed be in the flick. However, she didn't tell them exactly what role he'll be playing, but many have speculated that Jones will take on the role of General Chester Phillips, the man who picks Steve Rogers to take part in the Super Soldier program.

I'm not completely familiar with all of the comic book lore behind Captain America, so I'll let the Marvel Wikia explain a bit more about the rumored character that Jones might be playing in the movie:

General Phillips hand picked 4-F army reject Steve Rogers to become a part of the 1940 Operation Reborn experiment. In particular, he admired Rogers patriotic spirit. Later, Phillips was a part of picking Rogers as the eventual Super-Soldier Captain America. Phillips also oversaw Rogers initial training as well as some of his early missions.

Phillips was a hard nosed commander who did not tolerate errors from his charges. Phillips eventually retired from the military and lived a long life. He was killed in a rest home in Kentucky. He and Captain America were attacked by Lemurian assassins. While battling his assailants, General Phillips throat was fatally slit.

Sounds right up Tommy Lee Jones' alley, so hopefully we'll be seeing him barking orders at Chris Evans and maybe sharing some occasional witty banter with Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury, too. Anyway, Captain America will be getting production started sometime next month, so hopefully we'll be getting our first look at Evans in the red, white and blue sometime soon. Along with all the other forthcoming projects leading up to The Avengers, we'll be keeping you posted on all the latest developments related to all Marvel movies, so stay tuned right here as more information becomes available. Isn't this great casting news or what?

I'm curious what Evans will look like in the Cap uniform too, it could be pretty damn cheesy looking if he really has a big A on his forehead. Maybe they'll go the mocap route like in Green Lantern.

@5... Nick fury doesn't age, they'll probably touch on his origin too during the film.

I am just be splitting hairs @6 but Fury does age. He just ages slower than your average human being. Hell even Superman ages. About the costume they are doing a mixture of "Ultimate" and "Classic" costumes just like they are doing with Thor. I am beyond excited for this upcoming movie. I am not sure how wise it is, but I am starting to collect all sorts of Captain America memorabilia. I found this place the sells all these "official" pens, but I am not sure how to trust that they are "official" I mean what does that even mean? http://tinyurl.com/35f5fmn
