A resort that was once dubbed the UK’s Las Vegas is now England’s most dangerous place to live and filled with "drugged up zombies".

With its tower, pleasure beach and illuminations, Blackpool was a jewel in the Britain’s tourism crown.

Now it’s riddled with crime - coming in top on a list of most dangerous places to live.

The famous coastal resort had 10,849 violent crimes committed last year alone, reports The Mirror.

There were 769.7 crimes per 10,000 people seaside town has a higher rate than any other place across England and Wales.

And visitors are also saying that the location has lost its shine.

Taking to Tripadvisor one user said: “I regularly visit Blackpool beach and promenade as it's an amazing place for walks, the views are stunning. Sadly, the area itself seems to have taken a turn for the worse.

“Drugged up and drunk men walking round the town centre looking like zombies and teenagers drinking and blaring music on the prom."

She added: “As a solo female traveller, I am now looking for alternatives for my coastal walks unless the council and police can get a grip on this problem."

Another visitor agreed. He said: “As a child, many moons ago admittedly, Blackpool was a magical kingdom of fun, excitement, the unexpected, the bazaar plus a mile or so of amazing lights at night during the illuminations.”

The tourist continued: “Jump forward 45 ish years. Wow what on earth has happened? Filthy streets, locals who have simply given up on life, a seafront I was ashamed to be on. All the magic has gone sadly, it is heartbreaking.”

Another said: “We went to Blackpool for a day trip but after we looked around we didn’t want to stay. It is shocking how rundown, filthy and depressing is both the city centre and the promenade, many places boarded up, and the rest just old, unloved and tacky.

“Tourist attraction? I don’t see why anyone with right mind would want to go and spend their time and money there.”

But not all visitors were unhappy with their experience.

One said: “I think everyone leaving reviews is just jealous that their town isn’t as awesome and cool as Blackpool, it’s really nice and it’s great in the sun, and everyone I've met is really friendly plus it has to dodgems so it’s already onto a winner.”

In second place for violent crime was Middlesborough, reporting 657.6 crimes per 10,000 people since March 2022, or 9,452 last year. Thanet was third on the list with 621.5 violent crimes per 10,000.

Birmingham and Bradford came in at number four and five respectively, reporting 618.2 and 612.3 crimes per 10,000, data from Security experts at Get Licensed found.
