Top seed Anabel Medina Garrigues reached the semi-finals of the Canberra Classic on Wednesday with a 6-3 6-4 win over Russia's Ekaterina Bychkova. Rain then caused a three-hour delay to the day's play.
Also today, fourth seed Shahar Peer of Israel beat Japan's Aiko Nakamura 2-6 6-3 6-0 to set up a semi-final with Spain's Medina Garrigues.
Sixth seeded Colombian Catalina Castano also advanced after Germany's Julia Schruff retired in the first set due to the extreme heat when 5-2 down.
South Korea's Yoon Jeong Cho beat Melinda Czink of Hungary 4-6 6-3 6-3 in the late match to complete the semi-final lineup.
