Newcastle United enjoyed a Saturday afternoon cruise at St James’ Park, as goals from Jacob Murphy, Callum Wilson. Sean Longstaff and Anthony Gordon secured a comfortable win over Crystal Palace in the Premier League. Sandro Tonali was introduced in the second half by Magpies manager Eddie Howe, with the Italian handed a fine ovation by the Newcastle supporters.

Newcastle United romped to victory over a hapless Crystal Palace to move up to fifth in the Premier League.
The home side dominated from the first whistle and took the lead when Jacob Murphy lobbed home in the fourth minute - a goal given after an assistant referee's initial flag for offside on Kieran Trippier was shown to be mistaken.
The Eagles looked set to be very fortunate to go into half time level after Anthony Gordon had missed an open goal on the half-hour mark but Newcastle notched twice before the break to give them a lead which did not flatter them at all.
First, Gordon made amends by volleying home Murphy's fine cross and then, almost straight from the kick-off, Marc Guehi mis-controlled a long ball which Sean Longstaff latched onto and then slid home into the net.
The fourth came on the break midway through the half when Murphy curled a wonderful ball behind the Palace defence which Callum Wilson calmly took under his control and passed into the net.
Sandro Tonali came on as a substitute to a thunderous reception from the home crowd despite the ongoing Italian Prosecutor's Office and the Italian Football Federation (FIGC) investigation into alleged illegal betting activity.

TALKING POINT - The most un-Hodgson-like of performances

He has never been the most fashionable manager in his near two decades of experience in the Premier League (and many more elsewhere in Europe), but there are certain tenets you could be assured of watching a Roy Hodgson team. The side would look meticulously prepared, every player would know their role, they would remain organised and not easy for opposition to break down. None of this was true on Tyneside. They came into the match with the Premier League's best defence outside of last year's top two. Here they were fortunate to only concede four. They had no answer to the triumvirate of Trippier, Longstaff and Murphy who rode roughshod buccaneering down the right flank.

PLAYER OF THE MATCH - Jacob Murphy (Newcastle United)

The transformation from a man who appeared a mediocre Championship winger, to a very dangerous Premier League one in the last 12 months has been extraordinary, but this performance lifted himself another notch. His instinctive lob for the first goal was remarkable, but even better were the considered precision of his two assists gifting goals for his team-mates. An England call-up might not be far away now.
