Ingredients

Makes 16 servings

4 tablespoons butter, room temperature
3 tablespoons minced chives, divided
1 tablespoon toasted sesame seeds
3/4 teaspoon grated peeled fresh ginger
1/4 teaspoon Asian sesame oil
16 1/4-inch-thick baguette slices
10 radishes, thinly sliced
Fleur de sel (optional)*

Preparation

  1. Step 1

    Mix butter, 2 tablespoons chives, sesame seeds, ginger, and oil in small bowl; season with salt and pepper. Spread butter mixture over each bread slice. Top with radishes, overlapping slightly. Sprinkle with remaining chives and fleur de sel, if desired.

  2. Step 2

    *Available at some supermarkets and at specialty foods stores.

  • These are great. The butter is a good combo of flavors. I made half the butter (still using 1/4 tsp of sesame oil) and just lightly toasted two slices of rye bread for myself, with one radish on each slice. I topped off with the chives and fleur de sel; the latter of which brings it all together. Would definitely serve to guests in the future, but perhaps on mini pumpernickel.

  • This was a big hit at a "High Tea" retirement event. Paired it with Chateau Montelena Riesling. It would also go nicely with a Sauvignon Blanc. I had a number of guests ask me for the recipe. I added a little extra sesame oil.

  • We found this just okay. Not offensive or bad in way, but nothing special. I didn't find the flavors melded, or stood out, or were interesting. My husband just slathered them with sriracha, which he always likes.

  • I made these 2 nights in a row just for my husband and I to nibble on with drinks before dinner. The flavour combination is delicious. My kids don't like radishes so I just buttered some baguette for them with the sesame butter and they loved it.

  • I loved this recipe. The flavors meld perfectly, it's easy to make, especially if you have a mandolin to slice the radishes, and it looks gorgeous. I found beauty heart radishes, which made them even prettier.

  • oh, so yummy. We just bought radishes at the first farmer's market of the season. These would be a great first course for vegetarian guests.

  • Good oriental flavor, and a nice change from the usual cucumber tea sandwiches. They looked nice sprinkled with black sesame seeds.

  • These were delicious. Don't put the salt on until ready to serve. the radishes "sweated" and I had to dab the excess water off of them. Still, a great finger food

  • I made these for a baby shower to rave reviews. It has a great modern flavour. I love these delicate little tea sandwiches and wish I had a reason to make them more often.

  • These sandwiches were a hit when I brought them to a potluck luncheon. Changes I made: I added more chives, doubled the sesame oil, and used 1 tsp of ginger. Definitely a little salt atop the radish slices adds to the flavor as well. Prior to these changes, I found the mixture a little bland.
