Stop at Mount Marau for a bird’s-eye view of the lush Punaruu Valley. Your guide points out the valley’s landmarks and narrates their history, legends and myths. Visit the Arahoho Blowhole, created through eons of coastal erosion. When waves crash on the volcanic rocks, a plume of seawater shoots into the air. Watch surfers ride the waves from a black-sand beach nearby. Next, enter the Fa’aurumai Valley where you can find impressive waterfalls and hillsides full of Hutu and mape trees. Next, visit Vaimahutu Falls which cascades 30 meters down into a crystal-clear pool. Spot giant ferns and colorful plants on an easy 20-minute rainforest hike from Vaimahutu to the waterfalls of Haamaremare Iti and Haamaremare Rahi. At Haamaremare Rahi, you can take a refreshing dip in the crystalline waters.
