After years of floating in the rumour void, it looked like Lucasfilm was punching it and going to hyperspace for an Obi-Wan Kenobi Star Wars spin-off starring Ewan McGregor. Then Solo: A Star Wars Story happened and it sounded as though the company was throttling back. But now, according to Cinelinx's sources, the concept is moving to the Disney+ streaming service.

The site's news – which has since been confirmed by some of the trades – has it that McGregor has signed on the dotted line to reprise the role he inherited from Alec Guinness and played in the prequels.

McGregor has long said that he'd be interested in coming back for more Kenobi, and now it appears he'll get the chance, on the small screen at least. Disney already has The Mandalorian on the way for the service, and is also at work on a Rogue One prequel series featuring Diego Luna's Cassian Andor and Alan Tudyk as sarcastic droid K-2SO.

With the Mouse House's D23 kicking off on 23 August and a Disney+ panel planned for the event, we can expect at least an official announcement then, and potentially McGregor showing up on stage to offer more details.
