Conall Gallagher's photo of the Brocken spectre photo on Errigal, with his father Michael looking on
Glenties family members climbing Mount Errigal were in the right place at the right time to capture a superb photo of a Brocken spectre.
Last Saturday lunchtime, Karl Gallagher was making the ascent up the 751-metre mountain with his son Conall and brother Michael, who was part of the Donegal panel that won the 1992 All-Ireland title and lined out for the local Naomh Conaill club.
“Lots of people on Errigal that day but we were fortunate to be in the right place at the right time. Happy New Year!,” Karl Gallagher told DonegalLive. "That’s my brother Michael - known as Big G - in the photo and was taken by my son Conall on his iPhone, probably his reflection in the photo as well."
A Brocken spectre is a large shadow of an observer cast onto a cloud or mist and is named after the German mountain on which it was first noted.
“Lots of people on Errigal that day but we were fortunate to be in the right place at the right time. Happy New Year!,” Karl Gallagher told DonegalLive.
Donegal-born BBC reporter Kevin Sharkey, who is a native of Annagry, last week said he was "awestruck" when he saw a Brocken spectre on Errigal.
