Gemma Arterton has revealed that she's welcomed her first child with husband Rory Keenan.

The actress — who has appeared in St Trinian's 2: The Legend of Fritton's Gold, The King's Man, and the James Bond film Quantum of Solace actually gave birth late last year, shortly after announcing her pregnancy.

Arterton broke the news of her son's birth during an appearance on BBC Radio 2's The Zoe Ball Breakfast Show today (February 8).

"I just had a baby. We are very, very happy," she shared. "He was born just before Christmas — a little Christmas elf."

Later appearing on This Morning, Arterton opened up about what it's been like in the seven weeks since her son was born. She said she's "totally smitten" and loves being a mother, then joked that she wishes she could get a little more sleep (via Yahoo News UK).

Last year didn't just see the couple welcome a baby. Keenan, who has starred in Peaky Blinders, War & Peace and Somewhere Boy, also directed Arterton in his debut short film. Titled Bump, it followed a pregnant woman. Fitting!

Back in 2020, Arterton spoke about her breakthrough role as Strawberry Fields in Daniel Craig's second 007 outing. She said that while she's grateful for it, she wouldn't take a role like Strawberry Fields nowadays.

"I still get criticism for accepting Quantum of Solace, but I was 21, I had a student loan, and you, know, it was a Bond film," she said.

"But as I got older, I realised there was so much wrong with Bond women. Strawberry should have just said no, really, and worn flat shoes."

Arterton is currently doing the rounds to promote her new show Funny Women, in which she plays the lead role. The comedy series is based on Nick Hornby's book Funny Girl.

Funny Women begins Thursday, February 9 on Sky Max and NOW.

Joe Anderton is a freelance news writer and resident Welsh person at Digital Spy, having worked there since 2016.

In his time he's covered a host of live events, interviewed celebrities big and small and crowbarred a countless amount of great/awful (delete as appropriate) puns into articles.

A big fan of TV and movies both mainstream and obscure, Joe's main interest is in video gaming. Although particularly a PlayStation gamer, he plays across Xbox, Nintendo and PC/Steam Deck, and likes to keep tabs on many games he's not got the time to play.

Joe currently does not use Twitter, but he only ever used it to tell people to watch the film Help! I'm a Fish (which you really should do).
