Macaulay Culkin has responded to speculation that he could pop up in the new Home Alone movie.

Home Sweet Home Alone, which is due to premiere on Disney+ next month, debuted its first trailer on Tuesday (October 12) ahead of its release next month.

However, in the wake of chatter that Culkin could make an appearance, the star himself has rubbished rumours on social media.

"Hey y'all. Just a heads up since I've been getting this question a lot today: I am NOT in the new Home Alone reboot," he tweeted on October 13. "I wish all involved the best of luck though."

Alas, it seems we won't be finding out what has become of Kevin McCallister.

However, one past face from the franchise that will appear is Devin Ratray, who reprises his role as Kevin's older brother Buzz.

He'll be joined by the likes of Archie Yates, Ellie Kemper, Rob Delaney, Aisling Bea and Kenan Thompson in the new movie.

One particular point of discussion setting social media alight in the wake of the trailer has been Bea's English accent in the movie, many taking issue with Disney over the actress not using her natural Irish accent.

The star has since responded herself, explaining in a video: "Hello, to everybody that has been wondering online why I have an English accent in the new Home Alone movie: it's because the character's English.

"She's from England and if she was from England and she spoke with an Irish accent then that would be quite strange. But she's English. If she was Australian she'd probably have an Australian accent. If she was from Texas then she'd probably have a Southern accent. If she was from Scotland then she might have a Scottish accent."

She continued: "If she was Irish she would speak very much like I do, because I am from Ireland. But this character is not from Ireland... she's from England, and so that's why I'm doing the accent."

Bea also brilliantly captioned the Twitter clip: "It is also not a true crime documentary about a Mother who leaves her son alone to fend for himself, because if it was I would be in jail."

Home Sweet Home Alone comes to Disney+ on November 12.
